Return tix to CAI for reissue?
Considering the fairly constant flack that seems to come from other ticketing desks when presented with an ex-CAI OWE to reissue, has anyone considered simply Fedex'ing them back to Ms. Sobhi to reissue?
|
I made some inquires about the cost of returning the ticket to Cairo for revisions. I remember about $60 one-way to Egypt. The big problem was the limited insurance coverage for such an expensive document usually $500 - $1000. That was on both FEDEX and US registered mail. Also, the time I asked her (in Apr), she was not sure how BA could charge the delivery fee.

All I can say is that I have had two of Mrs Sobhi's tickets reissued/rerouted with no difficulty whatsoever.

The first one was rerouted by the Qantas in-town ticket office in HKG (I went and did something else, but it was ready within 90 mins), and then rerouted again by CX at HKG airport (done within 25 mins).
The second ticket was rerouted by the BA ticket desk at LHR T4 flight connections centre. This took longer - essentially because the people there didn't have a clue about this type of ticket. But I was sitting inthe Concorde Room sipping champagne while they sorted it out, so it was no great hassle to me, except that they charged me 25GBP "ticketing fee" in addition to the normal USD75 reissue fee. |
Christep, was your ticket completed in the same manner as mine? No fare calculations along the side of the ticket (or taxes) and many of the boxes on the ticket face were empty. It seems that my ticket had each segment city pairs listed (some open and others with dates), the fare price, tax price and total price in EGP. The BA supervisor at the BWI ticket counter was not happy with its execution and she told me that she used to write these tickets all of the time.

Since the cost to make one change is the same as the cost to change 19 segments then what I do at Cairo is get the segments up to where I know I will want a reroute and then do the rest as simply as possible. For example, my latest ticket was ticketed at Cairo as: CAI-LHR-HKG-KIX//NRT-HKG-SEL-HKG-JFK-LHR-CAI I knew that when I got to HKG the second or third time I would reroute, so I didn't bother putting in a complex US itinerary, or anywhere else in Europe at the end. (I may of course have reservations already for some of that but that is a completely separate issue.) On a previous ticket I had no idea where I would be going in Asia, so I simply ticketed: CAI-LHR-HKG-SFO-LHR-CAI and then rerouted once I got to HKG. I am now happy that both the CX and the BA ticketing desks at HK airport are very comfortable with OWE tickets so I have no qualms about simply turning up an hour earlier than normal for my first flight on the reroute and just getting them to do the ticket on the spot. Dare I say this is another reason to keep the reservations and ticketing separate (i.e. open-dated tickets)? It means that you can make your reservations as soon as you know where you will want to go, but you can hold off doing the reroute ticketing until you are at a place where you know it is easy to do. I was at BWI and waiting for the bus for 40 minutes, so I thought I would just ask if this station could handle a RTW ticket re-issue. That’s when the supervisor called tariffs, etc, etc and said that I could only have 20 segments and that it was doubtful if any BA airports would accept my current ticket. I had already flown the first LHR-CAI segment. She told me what was wrong including the empty fare calculation ladder, origin/destination box at top of form, missing conjuction ticket numbers on each and every coupons. She indicated that she would not do a ticket re-issue with the current one that I had. I have 28 segments on the current ticket and would like to replace my 1 flight LHR-SYD on BA with the LHR-HKG-AKL on CX. The other changes are switching some return flights, KIX for NRT. I am 90% happy with what I’ve got, so if it appears that the re-issue is not going to work, I’ll just use what I’ve got.
I may go to IAD BA office instead to see what is possible as I have yet to make the itineray changes. |
