ATW Questions
 

Great forum! Several questions come to mind after reading prior posts:

1) If I take QF # 301 SYD-LHR (direct flight with stop in BKK), is this one segment? Did I go directly South Pacific to Europe without stopping in Asia, as per the terms of an ATW ticket?

2) Maximum segs on ATW is 20. Is there a mileage limit in BC or FC?

1) this counts as one segment, but three continents, so it is valid as part of the rules
2) There is no limit per se, but the max mileage you can squeeze out by fully using direct flights/surface segments is just shy of 86k miles.

You are deemed to have gone through Asia, but should you want to route through Asia again (eg NA-Asia-SWP) you can do so. This is why Aus RTW tickets are minimum 4 continents (ie SWP, Asia, Europe, NA).

If you are doing a ONE4/5/6 (OneWorld Explorer there is no mileage limit only segment limit- irrespective of class). If you are doing a GLOBXX (Global Explorer) then there are mileage limits - IIRC 29-34k -range. The XX stands for the 000s of miles allowed on the ticket.

Be aware that if you are on a D class ticket, QF 301 is actually BA metal and there are no QF D or J seats sold on this flight. Take the BA flight number instead. Reason: BA have flat bed seats and QF do not. There was sufficient difference for the airlines not to codeshare in this class. QF seats are being progressively changed to flat beds in D & J, but this may not be complete for some time.

This is irrelevant if you are flying in F or Y class.
