RTW through Cairo
 

I understand that buying an rtw ticket is cheapest through Cairo...Where can I find out more about that.....or a travel agent to contact?

There are many threads in this forum on buying tickets in Cairo. Do a search on "Cairo" and "CAI" and you'll find them.

Rather than mess with a travel agent, most people have bought directly from the airline, usually BA but IB and possibly AA can also ticket in CAI.

After you have done your research in this forum, feel free to ask any specific questions you may have.

I've never flown with one world usually star alliance partner airlines. I'm based in Tel-Aviv so the Cairo leaving point is more attractive perhaps than London.

I'm wondering also how to find out about prices for a rtw flight like this from Cairo. Do I just call BA in Cairo?

You could call or if you search recent threads (the past week or so) there is one with a fax number for the BA office.

You are best to work out an exact routing, post it on here and people will point out if you have any illegal parts to it. Also what class?

You appear to have a 4 continent RTW trip: Europe-Africa-SWP-NA-Europe. From CAI, this ticket will cost (in Egyptian Pounds) 29150/23320/10450 (or 21349/17080/7654 in Israeli Shekels) for a first/business/economy ticket -- plus taxes and fees.

Unfortunately, there are no exotic Pacific isles that OW flies to from Australia/New Zealand. (Well, there is New Caledonia but it's not your typical tourist destination. There is also Lord Howe Island which is part of Australia but is a resort destination.) The best I could do was Honolulu. Here is a routing for you to consider: cai-lhr-jnb-vfa//jnb-syd-mel-akl-syd-hnl-sfo-ord-yyz-[Europe]-cai.

You can choose a couple of segments in Europe but need to end up in either LHR or BCN for your return to CAI. For example, ...yyz-hel-vie-lhr-cai or ...yyz-lhr-gva-bcn-cai. As you have already used one of your allowed four European segments to get out of CAI, you only have three left to travel in Europe and return to CAI. You can also only make two stopovers (>24 hours) in Europe.

IMHO, if you are after stress relief from the hardships of A, D or even M class, LDH is the only place. Not only do you get to fly a DH8 in economy from SYD or BNE, you get a zero stress island life style with nothing but fine restaurants, great views and not a lot to do but go exploring, beaching or planning how to do nothing. Have been there twice (and again later this month). It certainly is a resort place, but not the awful resorts for package tourists. Give it a go!

I have a few questions.

1) I'm not sure about the number of flights I have in Europe as cai-lhr is a stop over. 2) How do the stop overs effect flights in the US?
3) Do I have to go back to Cai?
4) How can I work out the tax approx based on this flight plan?

1) Every different flight you take (i.e. each time you use a ticket coupon) you have used one of your segments. You are allowed four everywhere except NA where you can have six. You can buy two extra segments everywhere except your continent of origin. Stopovers are stops > 24 hours in a location. You can have as many as you want except in your continent of origin (Europe) where you are limited to two. Your proposed itinerary has four segments in Europe but you don't get back to CAI which you must do (see 3).

4) You can compute it from the data at http://www.consolidatedtravel.com.au/qf/taxes.asp . Figure on it adding 5-15% to the cost of your ticket.

Or more precisely: the last ticket coupon must finish at Cairo. Clearly you can choose to throw it away if you wish.
