KA membership

does anyone know why KA is not already in oneworld? It doesn't make any sense. I booked a KA ticket TPE-HKG-PVG today and it even comes up on the CX website under my MPC profile. It's sooooo annoying to get no club miles. There must be a reason beyond than the occasional misgivings between KA and CX management.

Really! That's new - my last KA flights in January didn't show up on my Persoanl Itineraries.

A few years ago the Dragonair schedules used to come up with the CX schedules on their website, but they disappeared and it seemed to me that CX and KA were drifting apart. Hopefully that is now reversing, despite the court case. Certainly, KA was proposing to CX to codeshare on its mainland routes rather than CX actually flying there. Perhaps this system change is in anticipation of that. Presumably once the code share is in place you could get club miles by booking on the CX code.

There maybe manny factors, but here MAY BE ONE:

The cost to update the computer system to work with onework is REALLY EXPENSIVE. CX did it but KA, as a smaller regional airline, may not justify the cost. Also, the entry fee Oneworld demanded from KE maybe too high from KA's point of view.

Do they really come up?

I made a AA/BA/AY/CX/KA reservation and put my CX number for FFP for all the airlines. Found out BA and AY shares the same booking reference, so do CX and KA if reservations are made under a single PNR (via a third-party booking GDS).

But on my MPC itineary secion, CX flights appeared all right including a BA-metal CX codeshare but no KA flight was listed.

it comes up mainly because CX website is linked to their own CRS (CUPID), which is shared with KA.

but there is no direct relationship with KA joining OW.

mhtaipei, after your email message, I created a stand-alone reservation for KA480 and input my CX FFP number. This time, I could see it online on the CX personal itineraries page. Thanks. I don't know why it didn't come up the last time.

Dragonair works like an "affiliate" for Cathay in China.

It is not a franchise to CX. So it is not an member of OneWorld.

And I doubted KA will join the alliance.

http://www.dragonair.com/icms/servle...es=63&lang=eng

"China National Aviation Corporation (Group) Ltd. (CNAC Group) purchased a 35.86% interest in Dragonair to become the largest shareholder. CITIC Pacific retained 28.50%, Swire/Cathay Pacific 25.50% and the Chao Family 5.02%. "

Thats the shareholding makeup - I understand there are some "China" issues however with CX codesharing on KA services.
