Frustratingly the largest rise is on the DONE3 which is the fare I want http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Is GIB still the cheapest (or one of the cheapest) location to purchase OWE tickets from? Or are there better locations? We bought our OWE RTW tickets there last year and were thinking about doing it again this year - next month.

Thanks.

ExMo Mar 3, 2003 10:41 am

The current cheapest for first or business class is in your backyard - CAI. Fares from GIB have gone up substantially.

You can download an Excel spreadsheet with the current fares and a currency conversion program from http://www.exmo.net/OWE-030301.xls .

Wanderer Mar 3, 2003 12:01 pm

Thanks, ExMo! I did download your spreadsheet. The CAI prices are dated Nov 2001 - and yes those are extremely attractive for the "A" tickets. Do you know if there are any more recent ones by any chance?

Same question for AGLOB3 and AGLOB4 RTW fares.

Now if I can just get there and back before the war....

Thanks!

The prices were current as of the 03 Aug 2002 Sabre files that were recently obtained by UserMark. I believe they are in effect today.

I, too, plan on making a quick trip there to p/u a ticket -- hopefully before the war starts.

Book and ticket through BA.

Mwenenzi Mar 3, 2003 1:51 pm

Would someone please decode MONE3 etc,
Thanks

ExMo Mar 3, 2003 3:47 pm

The base OWE fare code is ONE. It is preceded by a letter: A, D or M, to indicate the class of service: first, business and coach, respectively. It is suffixed with a number: 3, 4, 5 or 6, to indicate the number of continents purchased. Thus, MONE3 is a 3 continent, coach Oneworld Explorer fare.

The Global Explorer fare is similar using a base of GLOB and a suffix number indicating the thousands of miles purchased.

Will take up advice & book via BA Travel shop in UK & collect in CAI.

The great thing with CAI over DEL (where I was thinking of buying as well) is only 15k BA miles to get there. DEL = 25k http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

With current BA miles, looks like I'll get 2 x LHR-CPT in J with BA for Oct wedding trip + pick up PLT with AA & 40k miles on the same trip in F.

On the topic of CAI...does anyone know what tax is applied to these tickets?

JohnAx Mar 4, 2003 7:07 pm

Too bad there's not a cost-effective way to take advantage of the CAI fare from a LAX home base.

I'd be really interested to hear how you get on doing this. If the BA Travel Shop co-operate I think we have found a cheap and easy route to cheap OWE tix! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

ExMo Mar 5, 2003 11:35 am

Thanks to the sharp eyes of headintheclouds a few typos have been found and corrected in the fare conversion spreadsheet. These involve Gibraltar, Latvia, and Lebanon. All the errors were obvious if looking at these countries (e.g. 6 continent fare less than 3 continent, etc.). It is only worth re-downloading the sheet if you are considering one of these countries as an origin.

Sorry for the problems but typing has never been one of my strong suits. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

The trip (which includes business @ the beginning) has slipped two weeks. Expected departure is now April 11. Will keep you posted.

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif Bad news http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Both BA & AA told me that booking flights through the UK offices - even when collecting & paying the fare in CAI - would mean charging the UK rate and not the local on !!

The only way around this was to call BA in CAI (00-202-5780741/2/3/4/5) and talk with them about the booking.

headinclouds Mar 20, 2003 10:14 am

Odd that AA ATW desk stated that ticket must be booked in CAI. Where the ticket is issued, not booked determines the price. My AA contact told me so, even 2 days ago. So, can one fax the BA Cairo office with an itinerary and credit card details for collection at a later date?

That's what they told me - I gave them itinerary & they came back with a few hours with the price inc tax. Thing is they couldn't guarantee the fare until they had the CC as the exchange rate is volatile @ present. tax I was being quoted seemed high too but maybe that was just my route.

Ticket price should be quoted in Egyptian £s. The exchange rate to British £s has fallen considerably (>15%) since the first of the year. The quoted fare shouldn't vary with the exchange rate -- just what you will end up paying in £ Sterling will vary.

BA LDN quoted the UK rate converted to EGP & AA LDN told me that they would do the same.

BA CAI told me that the fare was the listed one but with the tax it added 20% http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

In the end ran out time to sort this out so will have to look at it again for later in the summer.

Thing is, by having time to replan I've been able to add more miles and have more non-flying time so all is not lost http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Markie Mar 20, 2003 11:11 pm

I am trying to sort out a RTW at present ex-CAI which I reserved in London.

UK came back with £7000+, but when I told them that I was collecting it in CAI they re-priced it at EGP39635.

But now BA in CAI are re-working the price as they have had increases recently. This has taken nearly a week, but they are still working on it.

I will fax cc details to CAI and go and collect it from BA office.
