Karachi turnaround

Has anyone tried a turnaround here on CX? I need to get >2700 mile segments to earn more status credits on QF, and this is the only Asian segment that fits.

Question is, what are my chances of a) not having to pass through passport control b) getting my B.P. in advance i.e. when I check in in HKG c) stuff generally going wrong -- if I miss the return I'm stuck there for 2 days!!

Thanks,
Chris

Why an asian sector, or are you on a OWE RTW ticket.
CX or QF to Australia would given you the distance over 2701 miles needed for those extra status credits

Sorry, forgot the whole story. Am doing a DONE4 ex-SYD, and have 2 free sectors I'm trying to use from HKG.

Thanks,

Not wishing to be a nervious ninny, but do you REALLY want to go to Karachi (even the airport)? There are not manư places on Earth I would steer clear of, but Pakistan is one of them at the moment.

And that was not designed to flame Pakistan as a country....

Not like al-Qaeda's going to bomb a Chinese jet in a majority-Muslim, military-led country tho'...

But yes, my plan very much involves NOT leaving the airport -- my risk tolerance may be a little higher than yours, but not that much!! :-)

Forget it. I have tried to gt return boarding passes with Cathay at HKG and they do not issue RBPs. You cannot get a boarding pass at airside at Karachi and must clear immigration.

Thanks. Will stick to a shorter, safer, easier route like BKK in which case :-)

Cheers,
C

bali and sapporo. they are long enough, safe and easy

Bali (Den Pasar)is the easiest. When you land contact the CX agent and they bring a boarding pass. Very nice and efficient no need to clear immigration.

Don't do a quick turn around in Bali. Spend a few days lynig on the beach at Nusa Dua or exploring Udud. You won't regret it. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

You can turn around at CMB and stay airside. It's 2,500 miles from HKG. You will never miss the return flight!

Good idea Try it next time

hkg-bom is 141 more miles than hkg-cmb, probably safer too. Connections wise, cmb would be a turnaround, bom wouldn't.

I've looked into this and while I would prefer some of the other destinations mentioned I don't think they put you over the 2,700 mile mark (required for the next level of tier credit with QF). From all the research I did only KHI seemed to fit the bill.

I concur. However, if I can't stay airside, I'm not going, since the turnaround is fast, and I

a) don't want to try to explain what I'm doing to a bunch of people with guns who don't read FT http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
b) get stuck there when I miss the return.

Will probably go with either CMB or BKK, since DPS would require an extra day, thanks to sub-optimal connections from TYO / to LHR.

Cheers all -- thanks for the input.
