Africa to Asia
I'm looking at two alternative OWE routes to allow me to get to a wedding in CPT and work in DEL, both ex-EUR:-
LHR-HKG-DEL-HKG-JNB-CPT-JNB-PER; or PER-JNB-CPT-JNB-HKG-DEL-HKG-LHR Is this possible ? The CPT-JNB flights would be on a Comair codeshare; the JNB_PER would be on a SAA codeshare. Thanks |
You can't go back and forth between Asia/SWP and Africa. Africa is in Region 2 along with Europe. Asia and SWP are Region 3. Only one transit between them is allowed. Also, you cannot use a SAA codeshare on a OWE ticket as SAA is not a OW carrier. However, there is a QF metal flight that flies JNB-PER-SYD.
Here is something that should work: LHR-JNB-CPT-JNB-PER (or SYD) - HKG-DEL-HKG-LAX-LHR This would be a 5 continent OWE ticket. If you don't need to stop in OZ, you can save some money and drop a continent by taking CX JNB-HKG. |
Internal African flights on Comair is fine as the subsidiary is owned by BA and you'd never notice anything different from parent company BA - except that Comair has real metal cutlery on board!
The JNB-PER flight on SAA is not permited on the the OneWorld Explorer but is permitted under QANTAS codeshare flight number on the Global explorer! |
... although QF seems to have introduced one JNB-PER-SYD through flight each week on their own metal in addition to the SA code-shares.

QF does not have the JNB-PER-SYD route. It does the nonstop JNB-SYD. That is operated by QF metal.

All the rest are on SAA metal. Any more info as I'd prefer to spend time in PER. |
Actually, QF64 currently stops in PER on Tuesday (QF63 also stops there on the outbound leg). This stop may be dropped later in this year.
If you want to spend time in PER, you could always do JNB-SYD-PER-HKG. |
Thanks, ExMo - that's exactly what I was referring to.

The service is akin to Club Europe - 3/2 seating at the front of the bus. Last time I looked, they flew some older 737's and 727's.
