CX & QF flights to JFK

On the HKG-JFK (stop in YVR) and SYD-JFK (stop in LAX) are these counted as one flight if you check in to the final destination thereby leaving me with 1 transcon available in the NA ?

Thanks

Yes

As number_6 said, yes, both are considered as single flights they both are the same continuous flight number.

you will get 1 boarding pass, and the 'great circle' miles.

in fact, i once tried to book this as 2 segments and get 2 BPs (hence 1 more segment and a bit more miles). the cx agent refused to do it for me

Not heard of these miles - what are they ? I was planning on getting either AA or BA miles unless there's something better.

Trying to get two segments would be the sort of thing I'd try too http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

"Great Circle" miles are the technical term for the mileage between points on the earths surface. This is the mileage used by airlines to award "Air" Miles. There is a handy tool for calculating the great circle distance here - http://gc.kls2.com/ - In the Path box put in the two airports you wish to calculate the distances between e.g. SYD-LAX.

It is possible to ticket QF107 as SYD-(LAX)-JFK. You would need to book SYD-LAX for one date and then LAX-JFK for another. After booking and ticketing call and have the LAX-JFK leg moved to the same day as SYD-LAX. IMHO it is better to ticket as one leg (SYD-JFK) and then use your transcon to get back to LAX.

I am doing-:
SYD-(LAX)-JFK
JFK-SJU
SJU-SLU
SLU-SJU
SJU-JFK
JFK-LAX
LAX-LHR

Believe it or not I'm doing SLU-SJU-JFK-LAX-LHR all on the same day. I must be mad!

What you need to do there is to book one sector with the actual flight number and the other sector under the codeshare flight number - worked for me when I went MEL (BA) SIN (QF) LHR on the same metal.

Clever idea. But doesn't this use the other as the transcon segment for the 2nd leg of the same flight?

At the moment my plan is to do:
HKG-(YVR)-JFK or SYD-(LAX)-JFK
JFK-DFW
DFW-MIA
MIA-JFK
JFK-YVR
YVR-DFW
DFW-LAX
LAX-LHR

GazaI leave JFK @ 7:20am and don't stop till I get to LHR !! Saves on hotel rooms and food http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif but sometime you just have to do it 'cause you can http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Boy will I ready for the BA J class bed
