Where Is Iberia?

Seems it has disappeared from the FT boards. Searched in OW board to find out about Business class seat. Aircraft substitution from Airbus 340 to 747. Is this good? In Y about 10 years ago, I have had some very poor experiences in Iberia and try to avoid them but must fly today.

I have had some recent experiences flying Iberia Business class intra-Europe and have been thoroughly satisfied with level of service, comfort and efficiency. Particularly as compared with other OneWorld intra-Europe carriers.

Thanks for the info as most posts are negative about Iberia. Unfortunately, I have my horror story too. As I was traveling on a business class award ticket MAD-SDQ-SJU, I inquired to see if seats were available the next day. Agent checked and nothing available so go to the airport anyways today to fly. At airport I find that I am no longer on today's flight and can not check in?!!? Iberia had oversold the flight and put me on the flight the following day free of change fees they said and denied any compensation since I was on "free ticket" and no ability to standby either on the flight I was originally confirmed on. In the end, it was AA that helped by putting me on a later flight MAD-MIA-SJU. They said that they have been having problems with Iberia cancelling some of their codeshare partners or mistreating award ticket holders so beware.

Another person on the same flight with me after check in was put on standby list. Poor European fellow was unaware that the airline should have offered him compensation as they could not provide a seat for him although he was confirmed as well. When he signed
This type of involuntary bumping would be an outrage in the US yet it seems airlines like Iberia get away with it. I was on award ticket but after previous unsolved baggage problems with Iberia, I wonder if it is worth the effort or if I have any right since I too was inconvenienced with the bump and had to pay hotel in Miami to overnight before SJU.

Perhaps I haven't had problems because all of my flights with Iberia to date have been paid business and intr-Europe. We will be flying AA reward economy intra-Europe in September. Will let you know how it goes. Sorry to hear your story. It certainly suggests caution.

Just finished our Orly to BCN roundtrip in coach - one nearly empty, one totally packed. Found flights thoroughly acceptable. In fact found comfort, service, food, courtesy far, far superior to BA business class intra-Europe.

You can read my trip report with Iberia.

Iberia, bless 'em. The only airline that has allowed me to take off with my business class seat in full recline and a glass of sherry in my hand. And some of the haughtiest cabin crew around.

My personal experience was summed up when we landed at Madrid. One of the unsmiling retirement-age cabin crew opened the door to the airsteps and THUMP out came the escape slide. Oh dear, whatever happened to 'cabin crew doors to manual and cross check'?

Food and service is fine, business class seats intercontinental are fine, but for intra-europe travel I'd still recommend BA. Much nicer lounges too.

I though Lan Chile and Lan Peru were pretty good when I flew them. Anyway, the choice is yours so do something different, if only to talk about the day you made your transfer via escape slide.

Enjoy your trip.

Oh so that's why they do that. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
