RTW from SFO

Hi,
I am a newbie in FT and have learnt a lot in the last few days. I was wondering about taking a RTW from with the following routing:

SFO-HKG-BOM-LHR-ORD/SFO

First of all would this work? If the LHR-ORD or the LHR-SFO leg is done with BA, would you get Aadvantage miles? I want to fly economy and what would approximately the fare be? Can I buy one ticket(for myself) and redeem another ticket (for my wife) with Aadvantage miles?

Any suggestions, pointers to past articles ... would help.

thanks,
sf91

This looks OK as far as a routing. It is a 3 continent RTW trip. The base ticket (less taxes, security, etc.) would be $3,400 in coach. However, if you originate in Canada rather than the U.S., the base fare would be C$3,750 or about US$2,400. Note that you can originate in Canada but end your travel in the U.S.

You must fly AA, not BA, across the Atlantic to get AAdvanage miles.

Your proposed itinerary comes in just under 20,000 miles. A Oneworld coach award for this trip will run you 100,000 miles. This award also requires that you use AA, not BA, to cross the Atlantic.

Thanks for the info. Is there a site that publishes these fares?

Hi SF91,

To help with your RTW planning, you might find it really helpful to search the oneworld and AA board.
Use the "search" function just below "post new topic/ reply..." and you will find many questions answered.
Also Fewmiles has an exellent site ( sorry, don't know how to add links, still working on that myself) which is guaranteed to get you hooked, and you'll find yourself booking extra sectors for the sake of miles.

BTW, i've found www.ityu.com helpful for calculating miles between airports.

Good luck with your trip, and if your in chc look me up.

FewMiles site is here. It contains pricing and the rules plus other good info.

Could someone kindly verify that the total miles allowed under a OW ticket (as stated on FewMiles's great site) is valid for a 20K miles RTW too? (versus a standard roundtrip?) And thus, for 180,000 AA miles, one can fly F RTW if its less than 20k miles? Thank you if you can address this.

The OW awards are based on total mileage, not how you do it. For 180,000 miles you can fly 20,000 miles in F.

To see the other mileage options and the rules go to www.aa.com and choose AAdvantage->Partners & Mileage Programs->Airlines and click on oneworld.

Thanks ExMo. I've been rusty with AA redemptions for a couple years.
