oneword award flight

This is my first post in oneworld.

I am thinking of doing a JFK->SIN->SYD->JFK, since British Airways and Qantas serve those routes, I think oneworld around the world award is my best option. Questions for you guys are: 1) how easy it is to obtain a Business Class award seats on Qantas/BA? 2)If I am looking for a travel date of June next year, when shall I start to book? 3) Has any one of you done that before, any experience to share?

I don't have many AA miles. If this is the only choice, I might as well swtich to fly AA and start to accumulate AA miles.

Thanks.

Sorry for the misspell, I meant 'switch to AA'.

One more question, if I take BA to connect in LHR, do I need a transfer visa from BR?

Thanks again.

Well, for a RTW trip your itinerary would probably look something like jfk-lhr-sin-syd-lax-jfk which comes in at about 24,000 miles. This would run you 150,000 miles for a business class seat. Also, if you are going to use AA miles for the trip you must fly AA, not BA, across the Atlantic, JFK-LHR.

As for visas, the only one a U.S. passport holder would need to get in advance is for Australia and that can be obtained electronically through a travel agent or the airline.

Sorry I can't help with award availability other than to say the business should be easier than first to obtain.
