How Many Consecutive Nights on Planes?
 

My husband has just flown 4 consecutive nights on planes. I had the time for a more leisurely start to our trip, so I've only had two consecutive nights. What is your record?

His routing:

Night 1: LAX-HKG, CX - flight delayed from midnight to 5am due to mechanical problems. Had 12 hour layover in HKG; met a friend and went sightseeing.

Night 2: HKG-JNB, CX - old first class configuration. 13 hour layover in JNB (with me); slept, worked out, and shopped for ostrich products.

Night 3: JNB-LHR, BA - 6 hour layover, used Arrivals Lounge and Concorde Lounge, then flew LHR-DXB

Night 4: DXB-LHR, BA - 4 hour layover before our flight to HEL and the true start of our vacation, enjoying the white nights of northern Europe.

Anyone flying in coach for 4 nights way out trumps this trip!

Just flew from NRT-FRA with a 6 hour layover then FRA-JNB-CPT. Two nights on a plane, and had to rest in CPT before flying to SYD-MEL-LAX. Your husband has the record

I think the most I have done is BKK-HKG-LHR-DXB-LHR-MXP-LGW (12 hr stop)-DFW in 3 1/2 days. It only required 2 nights on the plane and my 12 hr stop in LGW was an evening on the ground at a friend's house. I felt pretty tired after all that flying even though it was in F. Cannot imagine how your husband felt!

We're sitting in the BA Executive Lounge in Terminal 1, freshly showered, waiting for our Finnair flight to HEL and some nonflight time. My husband says he is doing just fine, although his body has no idea whether it is day or night. I don't know if 24 hours of daylight each day for the next week will help! He has begun to fight a cold in the past 12 hours, undoubtedly a consequence of so many hours on airplanes.

The BA crew gathered around me in DXB, demanding an explanation of why a turnaround flight there. Apparently they haven't met any of you other hardy RTW mileage runners!

Well..not exactly 4 nights on an aircraft, but 4 pretty much consecutive long hauls in coach. =)

syd - sin, arriving sin in late evening, where i was able to bed down for about 4 hours, before 6am departure next morning

sin - lhr, hanging around airport for about 8 hours before

lhr - dxb, arriving early morning, managed to get some sightseeing done

late evening departure (2am) dxb - lhr

needless to say i've never slept so well sitting up before! On the flights to and from DXB I slept throughout the flights without waking once, and when I got back to LHR slept for about 24 hours straight.

It WAS fun though!!

How about the record for consecutive coach-class airline meals?

The week after the Olympic Games finished in Sydney I had to get from BNE to RDU, and the only seats I could get out of Australia was heading west. So I went (all in coach):

BNE-SYD-SIN-FRA-LGW-RDU.

By heading west, the nights are lloonngg as you chase the sun, so this was all done through one night, but elapsed time was 44 hours. This routing consisted of 13 consecutive coach airline meals! The longest connection was in LGW where I cleared customs, interviewed a fellow for a job in Australia and met a collegue also travelling to RDU (but he was in J http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif).

My most number of nights was heading east from DFW-LGW-LHR-HKG-CNS-BNE, with a 10 hour day-time layover between LGW and LHR (hired a car and went to RAF Duxford - a wonderful place to spend a day). So that would have been 3 short nights. At least that flights was in J, though have done similar returns to Australia in Y via the UK.

A Kiwi friend of mine ended up flying NBO-LHR-JFK-LAX-SYD-BNE a few years ago, all in coach.

About this time last year, I did HKG-CDG on night 1 (BC) then JFK-EZE on night 2 (EC, after an afternoon CDG-JFK in EC). Had a bed in EZE for night 3, then EZE-JFK on night 4 (EC) and JFK-CDG on night 5 (EC). Real bed again for night 6, then AMS-JFK (BC) and then JFK-YVR (essentially night 7 in FC).

I'm ABOUT to do DFW-MIA-SCL (night 1) spend the day in SCL, do SCL-MAD (night 2) spend 2 hours at Barajas, do MAD-LHR, spend 2 hours trying to connect (and maybe get a shower) at LHR, then LHR-CPT (night 3), spend the day in CPT, fly CPT-JNB, spend 3 hours there then fly JNB-LHR (night 4), spend 6 hours at LHR (hello Heathrow Hilton!) and fly LHR-ORD-DFW during the day, going home for night 5. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif It's not the longest trip but it's definitely in the running!
