Oneworld Program for Infrequent Flyer

I have just booked a trip to Europe on which the transatlantic segments are on BA.

I am AA basic member and fly less than 5000 miles/year on AA and do not expect that to change.

Instead of signing up for BA's program just for miles on transatlantic segments, I would like to sign up for one program, where I can get miles on AA and BA transatlantic as well as for AA USA domestic.

After doing "research" I am tempted to sign up for Cathay Pacific as the miles do not expire.

Am I doing the right thing?

Thanks

I am not sure of the pros and coms of the CX programme but there is another option. Join the Qantas scheme and you will get mileage credit on all One World airlines with no route limitations.

Try Alaska's Mileage Plan. You get miles not only on all AA & BA flights but many others (CO, NW, KL, LA, QF, HA) too to give you carrier, routing & fare flexibilty.

I would recommend Qantas since their plan is as generous as AA and some even say that it is more generous. You could also apply for a QF mileage credit card (ANZ/QF VISA card) and pick it up while visiting OZ where you earn 2 QF points per every $A 1.00 (US$0.50) you spend in the rest of the world.

CX mile expires in 3 years, one of the worst in FF programs. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

I overlooked this important point, so I think I will go with Alaska as I do fly a few miles with NW and CO each year.
