Overnight stay requirement
Is it a requirement to stop overnight on each continent visited on a oneworld explorer?? Currently I am booked BOS-SFO-HKG-JNB-LHR-BOS.
My agent tells me I need to overnight in HKG before flying on to JNB. Is this correct?? |
no, unless u can't make the connection.

Nope. I have transited through LHR or LGW on my way home to Australia from the US on OWE fares. My regular jaunt to DFW is cheaper on a RTW ticket, so I retuen via Europe and Asia, but the only place I stop overnight is DFW. Done this lots of times. Costs less money and get more miles (though I don't max out the miles - I still have to survive the trip).

No overnight required but it looks like an "overday" will be required. My oneworld planner show that HKG arrivals from SFO on CX get in about 0640 and the JNB departures leave around 2350.

Originally posted by techgirl: Correct AND the JNB departures on CX only run three or four days a week. The other days are code-share on South African Airways. I'm not sure about the RTWs, but I know that you can't do award tickets to JNB on those flights. Good point techgirl. Oneworld RTW must be flown on OW carrier metal, no codeshares. |
Actually, I'm going BOS-ORD-NRT-HKG, on AA as far as Narita and CX on to HK. I would arrive HK at 2225 on a Saturday, in plenty of time, I think, to catch the 2340 CX-operated flight 749 to JNB.
I thought the rule sounded fishy. I ask my TA to check again - she's usually wonderful. |

There's a list of codeshare partners that ARE permissable. If they're explicitly listed they can be used (I.E. BA/Comair in South Africa and American Eagle in the US). For other codeshares, the flight is not permissable, I.E. an AA codeshare on JAL or the CX codeshare on SAA.
