Visit Europe Pass

Looking at FewMiles site I see that a Visit Europe pass can be used in conjunction with a oneworld ticket. I'm assuming it's possible to combine a OWExplorer RTW and a Visit Europe ticket. The USD80 cost of Domestic flights is highly attractive for me.

The only other problem I can see is the "residency" qualification.

34N . PROOF OF RESIDENCE MAY BE REQUIRED AT
35N . TIME OF TICKET PURCHASE OR AT CHECK-IN.

I will have no problem getting my South African TA to issue the ticket and linking it to my OWE (if the ruless allow) but I may come unstuck if the check-in people ask for proof of South African residency. Has anyone had problems with this in the past? Getting a SA address would not be too hard as I'm sure one of my SA colleagues will oblige but I'm not sure how "official" an ID would be required.

A SA Passport or residency Visa probably.

On the few occasions I've used these tickets I've never been asked for proof of residency. My situation was simpler than yours - trans-Atlantic on AA from the US, BA tickets within Europe, US passport - but it didn't look like they gave it a thought. (Citizenship doesn't prove residency.)

Basically you need to show your passport at check-in. Mostly they don't ask, but they have the right to. You need to show that you are a resident of a country outside the EU in order to use the Vist Europe Pass. Bear in mind that it might never happen - but if you cannot show any form of proof... the airline does have full rights to confiscate your Visit Europe Pass because you are using it against its rules.
