Buying additional seqments
 

If you are based in Europe and buy a RTW Oneworld Explorer fare in another continent you can get up to 4 free segments in Europe.

However.

ADDITIONAL FLT SEGMENTS WITHIN EACH CONTINENT - EXCEPT CONTINENT OF ORIGIN- MAY BE PURCHASED AT A CHARGE PER BUSINESS - USD400/AUD500/GBP200/HKD3200/EUR300.
OR
ECONOMY - USD150/AUD200/GBP75/HKD1200/EUR100.

Can you buy these additional segments after the original ticket is issued ? Would it be a $75 fee each time to insert a few additional sectors.
If the AONE5 was issued in South Africa what currency would they use ?


If you can do this an unlimited number of times it seems to be an excellent way to do lots of UK-Europe round trips throughout the year.

For example the round trip BA Club Class fare to many European cities is 500-600 UKP.

Yes and yes. They would convert the rand to your local currency of where the re-issue is being done. You will pay 75 bucks (or equiv) for every re-issue you do, irrespective of the number of changes. When you cut and paste, though, you missed the part that limits the number of extra segments you can purchase in each continent. I don't purchase them, but I think it's 4. Yes, you can add continents, and even though you didn't ask, yes you can change class mid-route.

I am no expert on the various routing rules, but you might like to check out the Global Explorer fare vs the One World Explorer (see http://plaza.powersurfr.com/fewmiles...xplorer.html#1 for details).

My initial reading of GLOB fare is that it not limited to a number of segments in any particular region, just stopovers depending on the class/miles selected.

Another restrcition is multiple routing between the same city pairs is not allowed. I am not sure if this is the case if only in transit through one of those cites that is used as a regional hub (say DFW, LHR, SYD etc).

Worth checking out anyway as the rules do seem similar but different in the area of segments in a region.

Please note: On adding additional continents after the ticket has been issued, that you will be paying the 'new' fare.

For people who have issued the OWE with 'old' fares and there is a new fare now, you will be paying the difference between of the say 5 Cont fare with the one you issued (ay 4 Cont) fare. If you paid on an old fare, you will be charged the difference between the new fare and what you paid.

Sometimes, it isn't worth while.

Actually that isn't necessarily true. I added Africa to my first RTW that I bought for about $5k. The add-collect was about $900. The current price of that trip is almost $9k.

From my reading of this you will be charged in ZAR (if bought in SA) converted from USD. Also, you can only add a maximum of two additioanl segments. The rules would not allow you to reissue it X number of times and each time add two more segments.

For the RTW I sent to you I was short of two segments: LGW-EDI and EDI-LHR but at a cost of USD300 for two, I was much cheaper buying a seperate ticket.

Then how to calculate fare difference?

I recently added an additional continent to my RTW. Even though it was purchased prior to the fare increase, I was only charged what the fare would hav ebeen had the change not been made. Nice.

You calculate the fare difference as if the ticket was originally issued with that fare code. In other words, if you flew half your trip in D and want to upgrade to A, you will pay as if the whole trip was in A.

Yes, I have realised on re-reading the OWE rules that you can only have 2 additional (paid for) segments outside of the continent of origin.

My original master plan was to buy a AONE5 ex JNB and then hang out in the UK and do a number of side trips to Europe. I now realise that once I get to London and then on to either N. America or Asia you cannot return to Europe as you are allowed only one intercontinental arrival and departure.

Interestingly, it explicitly states this in the Oneworld Explorer rules but not in the Global Explorer rules. However, I expect it would be considered back tracking to re-enter Europe a second time on the way back to South Africa.

If anyone has any further thoughts on this issue I would be most grateful to hear from them.

when 'upgrade' or add segment. it is based on the fare you first purchased.

u have to pay 75$ per reissue if the trip has already commenced, otherwise it is free
