Maximum Miles for RTW OWE6
 

I'm planning on doing a 6 continent RTW in First next year to get the most miles possible. I did a search but couldn't find any info. on that. I would probably start in the US or maybe Europe as I have a $8500 credit to use. Would be flying strictly for miles so any help would be appreciated. Also looking to do it in the shortest period of time. I'm sure this has been covered before but I couldn't find the thread. Thks http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Mine was about 100K, though not the most. My goal was primarily to enjoy where I went, and secondary for the miles and whatnot. There were several threads on this subject, and if you do a search, you will find them.

As a matter of reference, it will be about 105K or 110K if you leave from the US, and a little less from most places in Europe. You used to be able to actually hit like 115K, but different changes in Oz put an end to that. Also keep in mind that is purely miles, and not points. A 1800 mile hkg-nrt is about the same as a 2300 mile hkg-dps if you do one in F and one in J.

I agree with darren that going for the max miles possible does not always make sense on a F Class ticket. You can get more miles by flying in Biz to Dehli then in F to NRT but your comfort level would be dramatically different.

The same aplies in almost all continents where scheduling and seasonality impact where you can go and how long your layover would be. There are many discussions on this in the past. My suggestion is to post an initial plan and you will have no shortage of advice of how to maximize your miles from there.

ps. also do not forget that visa requirements into many countries and your willingness to travel to the middle east will impact your plans!!

So could I expect to requalify for EXP w/ just one trip? ie. 100,000 pts. or 100,000 actual miles?

Plus I will have to think about trips to the Middle East too. Although I remember some guy who did a turnaround at Dubai I believe.

Depends on what class you are flying. If you are in Biz or 1st, then yes. If I remember right, you can do it in first with a 4 continent and in biz with a 5. You can't really do it at all in economy because of the limitations on what earns mileage. Assuming you are in the US Aadvantage system, QF only accrues 70% (book the codeshare for 100%) and CX doesnt accrue any.

Many people here, including me, have done the DXB turnaround.

Here's another lunatic. IMHO, it is perfectly safe to fly to and spend time in most places in the Middle East, most certainly in Dubai. In fact, I feel safer on flights to Dubai than on those to and within the U.S. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

At the risk of sounding like "me too", I actually enjoyed my turnaround in DBX for the miles only. Actually, I did spend 6 hours at the transit hotel not a true turnaround. I distinctly remember the BA crew on both flights as being excellent.

I just did a LHR-DXB turnaround just for miles on Nov 20. They had the new flat beds in C class which was almost empty both ways. I enjoyed the terrace lounges at both airports, the flight, the service and the superb duty free at DXB. I stayed for 2hours and 40 minutes and just for the fun cleared immigration and returned even though you can do it thro transit. The DXB airport is not Changi but comes close to it in terms of convenience

I know one very frequent flyer who did :
LHR-HKG-MEL-PER-SYD-HKG-DPS in one go. Though in First Class. But still....

I admire his abilities!

I just did LHR-DXB-LHR-ATH-LHR-ORD-SFO-ORD-MSY and will do next week MSY-SEA-MIA-DEN-MIA-NRT-HKG-DPS-HKG-BOM ALL IN BIZ CLASS.

While this thread touches upon the topic of DXB turnaround, I wanted to get your gracious opinions on my upcoming routing;

After an exhausting week of work, I will embark on the next chapter of my OWE4 itinerary that starts from JFK-LAX ( 6 hours lay over, probably lunch with friends)then on to LHRx-DXB-LHRx-MXP-LHRx-HKGx-BKK.

I have planned of a quick DXB turnaround but then a thought came across that this is my first voyage into the world or arabian knights or sultans. Should I spend a night at a dessert oasis just for the experience of being there and away from it all? Or do you suggest that I do quick turnaround and spend an extra night in MXP??

Incidentally, those six star hotels on the Dubai coast do not really appeal to me.

Your experience or suggestions are kindly appreciated.

Back in October I also did a quick turn around in DXB. Getting the boarding pass for DXB-LHR was a pain as there were no BA specific check-in lines in the transit area. Took me 1 1/2 hours!!!

I did do HKG-BKK-HKG-LHR-DXB-LHR-LIN/MXP-LGW-DFW all in one shot! It was in First though and turned out much better than I expected. Wasn't too tiring at the end of the trip. Although from start to finish it was about 80 hours of traveling. Did overnight in LGW because no same day connection for LGW-DFW.

If at all you do a DXB turn around next time , do not use Transit. Take a cart (There are plenty) to immigration, clear it and walk across to departures and recheck in. It takes less than 10 minutes and a pleasant walk tto if you dont like carts
MCT's transit is never crowdeed and they will get the BA agent by radio for you and they are very good too.

Fly now and take a friend for free next time with BA

plus all the bonuses, you will get 350k with AA.
assuming you can shell out 140k in CX F from US-JNB.
this is what you get:
A. 210k net miles with ~~$4000,
vs
B, 350-400k net miles for ex-USA with >$9000.
if you have time, it is cheaper to do ex-JNB twice than doing ex-USA once!

Yeah pity 'mapper' is not recognising SEZ. There are other airport codes nearby. Try FRK for Fregate Island to help approximate the miles.

I was able to get just over 104k, though not all of these flights have 3-class service and some of the service is seasonal (ANC). Not like the old days where you could get 115k easily http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif.

I have a British Passport and no Visa is needed. You can check for US passport.

From the Government of Dubai, Ministry of Tourism website, it appears that US citizens qualify for an automatic visit visa upon arrival in Dubai:
