Question for the experts

I'm new to the rules and just have a quick ? if I wanted to fly from LAX-YVR (via DFW) would this be considerd 1 segment or 2?

also I am planing a 5 C trip from SW Pacific going from SW Pacific-Asia-North A-South A-Europe then to Asia. Can I do it this way?

if I want to fly from RIO to Europe do I have to take a BA or Iberia flight or can I take a AA flight from RIO to NYC to Europe?

Look at the flight number(s). If it's a single flight number (i.e. a one-stop flight), it's generally considered just a single segment. If you have two separate flight numbers, it's two flights/segments/legs.

there is an OAG shcedule you can download from CX's site, renewed every 15th of the month.

it is a lot more convenient than doing it on the web (try www.itn.com if u prefer online, but max 3 airlines though)

also note that on the OW schedule code-shares are included, they are not qualified for OWE, but qualified for AADV tier calculation

and yes to your 2nd/3rd questions.

if taking AA from rio-N.A.-europe, u can stay at USA not more than 24 hours, same for your trip from europe-OZ passing via Asia (bkk/sin).
ba has better product trnastlantic than aa, i wd suggest taking ba unless u r AADV member. but it makes sense to go via NA if u want more miles
from what i hear on this board, avoid IB at if u can (LA is decent)

Thanks Pegasus~!
how many times can I transit into USA from SA? can I do UIO-MIA-CCS and still be able to leave from RIO Via North America?

Can I do this in SW Pacific too?

No, and no.

There is one entry and exit per continent, with a few exceptions. Such as you can go from North America to South America and back to North America, given that it is a transit to either Europe or Asia. If you were to go from UIO to CCS, you would have to transit through SCL on Lan Chile.

I used to use the 1W timetable from the CX web site. Not sure if it is still there. It was 2 months ago and find it very good.

pegasus8228 Dec 11, 2001 6:40 pm

some of these flights r not 7 days a week.
(based on CX's OW trip-planner, still available)

so if they give u transit-mia on mon, try tue/wed. it would be either rhtough Lima or SCL.

the problem of thr' flight via MIA (one flight #) is that u might only get the great circle mile end2end but spent twice the amount of time on plane
