OW RTW from SIN or BKK
 

I'm considering OW RTW originating either in SIN or BKK (I live in SIN).

Contrary to what I read on this forum about intra-zone travel, the info provided at www.airfares.com.sg states that "Your routing must be in continuous direction without retracing your steps".

- Is this correct? Or is it perculiar only to SIN issued tickets?

- If I choose to ticket out of BKK, will the CX/BA/QF office in SIN be able to issue me a SOTO ticket at the (lower) BKK fare, or do I have to track down a travel agent in BKK?

My suggestion is to go by the rules of the fare and not a sales pitch. These are general rules, just to give people a simple idea of what they can and cant do. You can absolutely retrace your steps within a continent if you want. You can also retrace entire continents, under certain circumstances. Europe-Asia-Oz-Asia and N/A-S/A-N/A for examples.

Go to Fewmiles' page for the actual rules or go to a travel agent and have them print a copy for you.

Good news and bad news -

The good news is that you can backtrack within a continent (except US mainland/Hawaii) and when transiting continents as Darren noted. Also, contrary to what that WWW site states, you are now generally segment limited not stop over limited by continent (except continent of origin).

The bad news is that the fares went up about two months ago. The economy fares are now about 20% higher than shown on that site; business 10% higher; and first 8% higher. Also, you probably will not be able to do SOTO ticketing outside of North America.

Actually, the fare increases were much more severe than that. In some place, the first class fares increased by over 30%.

True. However, I was referring to the fares shown in the chart on the www.airfares.com.sg site. Sorry if that wasn't clear.
