RTW with Concorde
 

I have a trip coming up next month which is HKG SIN LHR JFK HKG. This trip will be done under 7 days.

The fare is HKD37660 in business. If I take the BA001 LHR JFK I have to pay a US$2900 sur charge. So total price in the region of HKD61000.

Can I do it any cheaper? I have to leave from HKG.

What is the surcharge for concorde on a First ticket? Would a first RTW ticket plus the concorde surcharge will around the same as a business RTW ticket plus the concorde surcharge? Just a thought..

BKK is always a good bet to start a RTW. Of course you would have to buy a ticket to BKK, but if you travel a lot you can definitely end your new RTW in BKK and start another one on your following trip.

(BTW, haven't seen you on the BA forum for a while...)

Someone will correct me if I am wrong but I think OW RTW tickets require a minimum 10 days trip. A 3 continent OW biz class ex-HKG is HKD39220. The upgrade cost to Concorde is HKD22450, I think.

Biz class: DONE3 ex-HKG $39220 HKD plus $22450 Concorde surcharge = $61670 total.
First class: AONE3 ex-HKG $52340 HKD plus $13950 Concorde surcharge = $66290 total.

(all prices in HKD)

Might be an option worth considering.

You are right Gaza. The rules state that it is a minimum of 10 days. However, I have had tickets issued which are less than that. Not sure how they enforce the rule.

I've often wondered if I had a booking ticketed within the rules and once the journey commenced, changed the last leg to before the 10 days would the systems be clever enough to spot it. I doubt very much if the average ticket desk agent would notice!

bagold, going through BKK is by far cheaper but when travelling with a carnet it is such a drag. thanks though.

It is my understanding, at least as far as Australian issued OWE's go, that the 10 day minimum is only for M (economy) class OWEs.

Errrmmmm..... I've just quickly looked at the rules on Fewmiles' site. It is apparently only RTWs that start in the SW Pacific that are like this. A/D class no min stay, M class 7 day minimum.

May be useful for future reference given that Australia is the cheapest place to by a M class RTW these days.

to get around teh 10 day rule all you need to do is
1. use CX stock
2. first segment on CX

CX agent will then have to do a trick.

e.g. if u have a 7 day trip.
they will issue you a ticket of day -3 (i.e. 3 days before you first segment), remove the first coupon, and then staple a note on where the first coupon is supposed to be.

when the check-in agent sees the note, she will issue you the first segemnt boarding pass but understand that the coupon has already been collected.

therefore, technically the ticket is still 10 days. but in reality they allowed you to board a flight 3 days after your theoretical first flight.

Thinking about doing the RTW in less than 10 days, can you just leave everything open on your ticket?

My mum's last RTW ticket had open dates on all her segments except for the 1st one. Didn't need to have any stickers added. The paper coupons were just collected at the check-in desks. Maybe this is a way around the 10 day rule?

Suggest :
buy a cheapo to Bangkok
start your RTW in Bangkok
finish in BKK via HKG but stop in HKG
leave last sector open HKG to Bangkok to cover the ten days
use it to start the next one
fly F for the price of C from HKG

i would say it depends...
e.g. if your last segment is with CX, they will usually let you make the booking.
but if your locator is with AA, you will need to make the reservation with them when the dates are finalized. there is a lucky draw of which agent you get.

i would say the risk with CX (as the last segment) is low. i usually call up MPO to make the reservation when there is change, and tell them i already have a ticket, (tellt hem the ticket number and booking class, too). then i just have to show up at the airport.
with AA, there had been a lot more problems.
(even though my itin is perfectly within the fare rule)
