Should I be Charged More?
No, I don't want to be.
After booking and ticketing my OWE, I decided to change my transatlantic segment from LHR-ORD to LHR-LAX. This was done with no problem, but with a reissue fee. Before my travel agent re-ticketed the trip (which she is holding-off on), I changed my PER-SYD segment to a PER-MEL-SYD segment to use my fourth Australian segment. Once again, no problem. I also changed my HKG-KIX-HKG segments to HKG-NRT(via TPE)-HKG with no problem. Now, I want to change my ARN-LHR-FRA-LHR segmentns to ARN-LHR-DXB-LHR and they want to charge me an additional $1169. The only difference with these segments is that they occur beofre my transatlantic flight and the ticket originates from ARN. According to my reading of the rules, this should not occur a charge, as it is still within my one free re-routing. What's the deal? Thanks! |
I am a novice at OneWorld RTW tickets, and probably shouldn't even try my hand at answering. But I am curious, so I went to FewMiles website, where he lists the rules for ticketing. Copying from that:
18N CHANGES/ 1.PRIOR TO DEPARTURE 19N . TRAVEL ORIGINATING AREA 1 - 20N . - BEFORE TKT DEADLINE - PERMITTED WITHOUT 21N . PENALTY. CHANGES TO THE 1ST INTL FLT OR 22N . PRECEDING FLTS REQUIRE TKT REISSUE. 23N . - AFTER TKT DEADLINE - CHANGES TO THE 24N . 1ST INTL FLT AND PRECEDING FLTS ARE NOT 25N . PERMITTED. DATE/TIME CHANGES TO OTHER 26N . FLTS PERMITTED AT NO CHARGE. TKT MUST 27N . BE REISSUED. Since you are past the ticket deadline - at least for the fare at which you ticketed - is it possible that the first international flight is considered to be the one OUT OF EUROPE and thus the flights before leaving Europe cannot be changed? |
SanDiego1K:
Although my trip was already ticketed, it is not past the ticketing deadline. I don't know if this becomes moot once the ticket is issued. Also, my impression was that Europe was Zone 2 or 3 and not Zone 1. Even if it does require ticket re-issue, my earlier changes did not affect the fare and as the ticket has not been re-issued, I would think I am still okay. |
Ask them to explain it to you and see why the add collect is being charged. There should be no additional besides tax, which should be less than $1169. I am no tariffs agent, though.
The ticket is from Zone 2, and there is no ticketing deadline. I suppose it would be the departure of your first flight. Your international flight is an international flight. This rule exists so that you don't buy a trip from Sweden and reroute your first segment out of London. It just looks like they screwed up. As far as your last statement, if I understand it right, you are fine. The joys of a paper ticket. |
I had a nice long chat with my new good friend "Al" from the AA RTW desk (my second time working with him on this ticket).
The problem was not with the re-route, but with changing my first flight out of Sweden. I was originally going to leave on March 11, but I wanted to move it to March 10. This, apparently was the problem. By keeping that same flight on the same day out of ARN and flying on the 8:30 PM deprture to DXB, I was able to make the change, nab the extra miles and points and notbe charged extra. All in all, I can't really complain. |
