WHICH FTL PROGRAM TO CHOOSE ??

I am probably starting to fly more and more on Oneworld partners flights , but as it seems much more complicated to get miles on discount tickets than on StarAlliance members I would like to know which of the FTL programs would be better for me to choose .
Do you have any suggestion ???

I am not familiar with many except AAdvantage, other than having a glossy understanding of them. However, you need to post some details about your flying habits. Where do you fly the most? Do you do short hops or long hauls? What class do you fly in? Are you actually based in Italy, or do you commute? etc, etc, etc....

And I think it would be nice to know what your expectations are in terms of priority -- earning miles, clearing waitlists, getting upgrades with miles, etc.

It's really hard to say but basically, I would think one should stick with the program one flies with most.

I put most of my oneworld miles into AA and Star miles into UA. I fly UA a lot (in my measure) and AA some.

I also have an LH account, but this is an exception in that I've never flown a mile with LH to earn Senator status, which I have now.

I am based in Munich and I have chosen Finnair Plus as my major FTL programme. Why? Because I get miles ( or in case of AY: kilometres) for practically every flight even the discounted ones. The only exeption is, that BA generally gives you miles only for full fare economy. This idiotic policy ruins much of the OW benefits, I know. But for BA flights I still have the BA EC account because since January you get half of the miles also on discounted flights. This is good for BA, AY and LA flights oly, though, so I will still use Finnair as the preferred programme. Their awards are about the best value in Europe (40000 kms for any flight within Europe, 30000 within Northern Europe, 20000 within Finland or Germany). That's the good news. The bad is that you can forget the long haul awards since they're too expensive (starting at 120000 kms for north America). The points are valid for five years. This is the major benefit over LH, which by the way is the propably the unfriendliest airline in Europe. Dealing with Finnair is always so much easier than with Lufthansa.
