Advice on dropping last segment of an xONEx

I know this must have been discussed a lot over the years, but despite lots of searching, I can't find any posts that talk about it (searching only turned up false positives, posts that don't actually contain the searched term).

If I want to drop the last segment of an xONEx without paying the re-route fee, what's the best way to do it? I could just no-show, but that just feels wrong. This would be a Comair flight with a BA code out of JNB.

You can do a date change for free, but at the end of the ticket validity you have the same issue. I believe 'no show' is the only no fee option.

You could take the coupon to open-dated if you can find a competent agent to do that - the rules still allow it, but few agents are willing or able to do it.

I was thinking of maybe phoning BA in JNB and saying I wouldn't be able to make the flight, so at least they know the seat will be empty.

Call and say you're cancelling for now, you'll rebook when ready, and ask them to put a miscellaneous segment in for a month past the final ticket validity date so that the PNR is still available when (if) you're ready to rebook.

If you don't rebook later on then it doesn't matter, but at least it'll be there if you need/want it.

The last segment is Comair with a BA flight number but the ticket was issued by AA. Should I call BA or AA?

Doesn't really matter; whichever is easier for you.
