Am I getting the most bang for my buck?

I booked a F 1W today here is my route:

MAD-LHRo-CDGo-LHRx-DBXx-LHRx-PEKo//HKG-SINo-HKGx-NRTxHKGx-LAXx-ORD-xMKEo-ORDx-LAXx-JFKx-MIAx-MADo

x = transit within 24 hours
0 = stopover
// = surface
I have to be in LHR/CDG/PEK/HKG/SIN/NRT/MKE(home) on business the others I can change.

Have I maximixed my 1W ticket?

seems not yet....
hkg-jfk > hkg-lax
lax-lhr/mad > jfk-lhr/mad

I will assume you know that you will be getting a 550 euro charge for your 5th European segment. Or whatever an extra segment charge is in 1st class. If you swap Paris and Dubai, at least your additional charge would be for the cdg-lhr sector, which is in business class. Or for that matter, it is a very short flight, so I would make the additional sector in M if it were up to me.

Then again, if it were up to me, I would take the Eurostar and be done with it. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Then you can use your additional segment and fly into lhr and connect to madrid. That way you can avoid using IB 1st, which I have heard nothing good about.

Pegasus - Thanks I didn't think about HKG-JFK, I'm doing this in July so it means a stop in YVR.

Darren, When I booked, I was given the impression by the agent that since I was originating in Europe, I did not have a problem with sectors. If when the rate desk gets back to me with the charge, I will surface LHR-CDG.

Thanks for the advice

ohh..... hkg-(yvr)-jfk is ONE segment, (one flight #, YVR should be "invisible")

pegasus - I knew it was one segment, just after all that traveling not sure I wanted to do the route.

Darren, Never doubt a FT'er - I got hit with the surcharge as you correctly stated for the extra segment. Dropped one LHR-CDG segment and got the fare in F at USD 4600! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Have a good trip. May the tariff gods be with me as well. Just put one in, and we will see what happens....

Imagine this conversation with my boss...

me: I need 2 weeks off to go to Philadelphia to find an apartment.

boss: 2 weeks? Why so long?

me: Because I need to transit through London and Hong Kong to get there.

boss: oh...uh, okay. Only you, Darren, Oooonly you....

Mikefly,
Do you mean that you are going from Paris to Peking via London, Dubai and London? Good luck http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif

salt,

Yes I'm going from PAris to Beijing via London and Dubai. I do have an 8 hour stopover in DXB that I'll spend at the transit hotel. It is all in F so I should survive.

If you drop also the other LHR-CDG segment you can perhaps replace MAD-LHR with MAD-HEL-LHR.

Mikefly

Wow,(I thought you had got your 'stopover' points mixed up with the 'transit' points on your original posting). Now that is what I call an impressive mileage run!

I have read on other threads by yourself that you got all this for $4600 US (including tax).
Could you be so kind as to post the prices of 3,4,5& 6 continent fares from Madrid in First, Business & Economy Class?
(I'm sure Fewmiles would also appreciate that for his price chart)
Thanks

Salt.

Thanks a lot for the price info http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

FewMiles Jun 18, 2001 3:17 pm

I received a complete price update from a generous FTer today and am in the process of updating the RTW fares page... give me a day or two to get all the goodies ready.

FewMiles..
