Are there any 2000+ miles segments QF/BA in Australia?
 

This is related to BA tier points. I am not even sure if there is a rule that grants 150 Points in F for > 2000 mile segments intra-continent (though it seems to work in North America and Europe/Middle East).

Are there any QF or OW carrier segments in Australia that are > 2000 miles. What is the best way to maximize BA tier points or miles in Australia when flying on a RTW F?

I checked DRW-MEL and DRW-SYD and they both come in under 2,000 miles - over 1900 miles though http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Oops! I realize that one does not need to fly within Australia but could fly to NZ and other destinations. Please advice good runs continent wide. Thanks.

Sydney to Perth is 2030, Brisbane to Perth is 2240.

TravelTil, thanks! Perth seems to be a useful destination to keep in mind. I am reviewing some of the old RTW itineraries here and on the mileage run forum.

BA has no traffic rights within Australia and they do not codeshare with QF on domestic flights.

QF do not offer any First Class on domestic flights within Australia.

Beg to differ Guy Betsy. BA has code shares on several QF domestic flights. And they certainly had traffic rights for BA operated internal flights e.g. SYD-MEL operated a couple of years ago and PER-MEL though that was 26 years ago!! Whether these rights are fifth freedom, I'm not sure.

mgm, you're right, BA do have Australian domestic codeshare flights with QF, they being a SYD - ADL connection and SYD - CBR. I think these are only feeders to BA international flights. However BA no longer operate domestic sectors here in Australia.

First Class is available on certain domestic sectors of international flights, such as SYD-MEL and vv. Also used to be available transcontinental between SYD-PER (as part of the SYD-PER-JNB service) - but I think this has been taken over by SAA now?

SYD-MEL sectors sold within Australia are sold as J class only - but you get to sit in the First Class section!

BA yes does code-share certain sectors within AUstralia but one can only book them in conjunction with an international BA flight arriving into Australia. You cannot book them specifically on a BA flight number in the hopes of gaining extra EC points.

There is one late night flight from SYD - MEL and one early morning flight from MEL - SYD on QF that continues to/from MEL - SIN that allows you to book A Class on a domestic flight. However, as Guy Betsy said, almost all 747-400 (very few offered) service within Oz is offered as a 2 class cabin.

That is interesting news that you get the F Class seats if you are booked in Biz on these flights. Does that mean you could get a Biz seat with a coach ticket if you are on these flights??

I haven't seen this - usually the flight is booked with more biz class pax than the 12/14 seat first class cabin - it just depends on how nice you are at check-in (or how high up you are in the FF programme) as to whether you get the seat up front.

Passengers continuing from the international flight may well keep their original seats...

I had one of those red-e deal tickets MEL-SYD ($50?) late last year. The flight was a 747-400 and I got seated in the business section on the main deck. May have been because I am emerald status with AA. I asked the CSM about it and he said that they seat business class either in the first class cabin or upstairs. Only problem with these internal flights is that you cannot pre-reserve seats, so it is either luck of the draw or turning up early and requesting a specific seat.
