BA And Iberia Snuggle Closer

BA said that the two airlines, which are the leading European members of the eight-strong Oneworld alliance, expected to cut costs and improve services.

The UK carrier is seeking to strengthen its bilateral links with all the Oneworld members and has informed the European Commission of its plans to forge closer commercial links with Finnair and Aer Lingus as it tries to counter growing competition from the rival Star and SkyTeam alliances and to reduce its losses on short haul services in Europe.

BA and Iberia said that they would code share, or sell seats on each other's flights, much more widely across their networks.

I'd like to see AA code-share more with OW carriers. Right now all their european code sharing (with the exception of DUB, HEL, MAD and BCN) is done with non-OW carriers, so OW status doesn't get you lonuge access.

I like SR and SN, but the lack of lounge access, and no shot at the operational upgrades is a real downer.

part of the reason, the code shares aren't done, is because in the case of the 1w partners, it isn't usually necessary.

I have to agree with 2 Many Miles. I'd give my business to SR/SN over BA in a heartbeat were there some decent reciprocal frequent flyer recognition elements to the relationship. This is especially the case for those of us who have to endure travel to/from/within Africa. Sabena has (or had until recently!) a far superior offering to and within the Dark Continent. However, in the relentless pursuit of lounge access and status miles, I'll stick with BA. Which, I suppose, is exactly the outcome the OW folks had in mind in the first place.... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
