Cheapest Origination for First ow RTW

Does anyone know which city is currently the cheapest to originate a ow RTW ticket in First. I am interested in a European gateway or an Asian gateway.

ChrisMoss7 Nov 15, 2000 4:24 pm

Last week I converted all the prices from the 1W RTW price chart that HSI.CHANG set up:
http://www.geocities.com/osointer/oneworld.htm

In US dollars, the cheapest 6 Cont in First contries were:

$5648 Hungary
$5765 Slovakia
$5830 South Africa
$5902 Slovenia
$6024 New Zealand
$6192 Tanzania
$6197 South Korea
$6333 Croatia
$6348 India

I will try and type out the rest tomorrow and post them.

These prices were based upon the currency exchange for November 9. The supposed price increase may change several of the base prices for those countries listed.

Ventures Nov 16, 2000 7:47 am

I will only need 3 continents since I will either start in Europe or Asia, and then continue to the u.s. and continue westward. I would prefer to start in Vienna, Zurich, Milan, or Paris, and then continue to NY, then on to Tokyo, Singapore, and then end back in Europe. Any suggestions?

Just checked the website....GREAT. THanks for the help.

$11,000 Statrting in the U.K but only $7,600 Starting in Gibraltar!

Who sets up these prices, and do they realize the UK and Gib. pound are at par?

Here I am in Budapest at the very moment; home of the cheapest OWE fare. Sitting atop the Castle hill overlooking the beautiful Danube and the city of Budapest, I am about to commense my first OWE trip in First class.

I am very glad to have decided to overnite here. The city is just too beautiful for me to just come and pick up the ticket! Besides, getting here was hard enough on *A. I was one of the victims of the UA mechanics problem now looming. My ORD-FRA was cancelled just 45 minutes before its scheduled departure. Later on, I learned that the second FRA flight would also be delayed due to "engine check". You can imagine the faces of the concierges at the first class lounge at ORD. They finally accommodated me on the last first class seat to LHR and on to MALEV to BUD. Glad I am finally here to move on. OW, here I come. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Silver san,
If you are reading this post, the new Four Seasons won't be ready for another two years. But given their locatin atop the hill and by the river, it sure will be the jewel of Budapest.

Hello Kaoru. Good to know you're enjoying Budapest. I am happy that you liked the Four Seasons (to be) at the end of the Chain Bridge, isn't it a beauty... Gives me a reason to be in Budapest in 2002. So where are you staying? Looks like you're up on the hill, so are you at the Hilton? I found a nice cafe in that area, food was surprisingly good, if interested please send me a mail (E/J dochirademo) for directions. And make sure you attend some concerts, as one time in history Hungary was under the same regime with Austria, Budapest is a music city as much as Vienna is. Have fun, and bon voyage.

Have a great trip Kaoru!
Budapest sounds like it's truly worth the visit and not just to pick up the ticket. I'm more than loking forward to doing the same next year (although I'm going for the D class option and resisting A class until I really deserve it) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Thanks ChrisMoss for the rundown. It makes me feel positively frugal that in the last 2 years I have bought 3 1st Class 6 Continent fares in South Africa and 1 in New Zealand!
I would never want to appear extravagant.

Ventures Nov 27, 2000 2:03 pm

Thanks ChrisMoss7. I ended up buying a 3 continent RTW 1st Class out of Vienna for about 4200 USD. Have just reached the U.S. from Asia..this is a wonderful deal, and the service in Cathay 1st Class was terrific.

ChrisMoss7 Nov 27, 2000 5:57 pm

You are welcome guys. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cool.gif I have to update one of the prices though. I got my fare quote back from BA Saturday and the 5 Cont in First is now 2066800 HUF without taxes. In US$ 6919!!!!!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/mad.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/mad.gif In reference to the list I posted earlier it dropped from 1st to almost 40th!!!!

I didn't believe the guy when he told me that. I said there must be a mistake. I said it was either for two people (it was a party of two), that it was just the ex-US price converted to HUF or some other mistake. I hung up and called BA again to inquire only about the base price ex-BUD. Both times I was given the same price.

In dismay, I called AA....twice....same answer.

Please someone tell me I have been given really bad information. If not......JNB here I come.

Kaoru, how much did you wind up paying?

MikeFly Nov 28, 2000 3:19 pm

I'm planning my next 1w rtw and called the AA rtw desk to check the 3 or 4 continent fares ex BUD, in F and was given 5246 and 5723 respectively. Checked ex FRA and the fares were lower 4965 and 5457 respectively.

Hope this helps someone other than me.

Also keep in mind that travelers in Canada and the U.S. can have those fares issued in their home countries! You still have to originate the itin. in FRA or BUD.

Kaoru Kanetaka Nov 30, 2000 12:12 am

ChrisMoss7,

Hi, sorry for the belated response.
I guess I was truly lucky having the ticket issued at the old price of 1,260,000 HUF for OWE 4 Continents in First class.

The agent did not mention anything about the prospect of a major fare raise; guess BA kept it until last minute.

But the sheer size of increase is amazing; now where do I reroute my ticket to stop by the cheapest OWE origin place???
