BA not in AAdvantage
 

I am a current member in AAdvantage.

Recently I flied round trip from Sao Paulo/Brazil to London and from London to Abuja/Nigeria in British Airways.

To my surprise AAdvantage did not credit the miles from Brazil to UK, although they credit the trip between UK and Nigeria.

In all Oneworld publicity they say that you can fly any airline and have just one frequent flyer program to be credit.

AAdvantage continue to refuse the credit.

Do you recommend any attitude against Oneworld system ?

Unfortunately, your case is a well-known exception to the general oneworld system.
AAdvantage members do not earn mileage for BA flights between the Americas (North *and* South) and London.
It's unfortunate that you did not know/were not informed of this rule.
At this point, there is little that you can do. For next time, try crediting the trans-atlantic portion to BA USA or another oneworld carrier.

srs, it's really unfortunate that you did not know this.

I think this has to do with the fact that AA and BA have been unable to get anti-trust immunity for their trans-Atlantic services. But I am not an expert on this issue.

I have been wondering, though, if you book an AA- or a BA-operated flight as a codeshare sold by another oneworld carrier, you might get miles credited?

AY seems to start codesharing with BA on YYZ-LHR. It was announced earlier this month on the oneworld website. I was really tempted to build this sector as an AY segment into my Explorer itinerary. I credit most of my onewworld flights to AAdvantage but I am not particularly impressed by AA's services. I prefer BA. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif But in the end, I took miles over my flight preference. I picked an AA flight for the transatlantic sectors.

You can credit a BA operated flight to Advantage if it's booked under another Oneworld partner. For instance, last year, when Canadian was still part of OW, i flew LHR-YUL on a BA plane but under a Canadian Airlines number and it went to my AA account without problem, with the double miles due to Platinum and flying a OW airline.
Unfortunaly, BA in the Americas, doesn't codeshare anything but the London -Santiago de Chile with Lan Chile.

AY code-shares BA flights between YYZ-LHR.

I forgot to add in the previous post that another reason I did not go for an AY codeshare was I could not find any on this announced YYZ-LHR route.

I wonder when this is coming. It deosn't seem to be in the AY's data base on their web site (www.finnair.com). No YYZ in the city pair search.

Has anyone flown AY across the Atlantic? What are they like? Do they have 1st class on these planes? I have taken their flights to Asia and in Europe and have not been impressed. Maybe their trans-Atlantic service is better?
