My travel agent send the rules - at least what they are in germany. This should answer some of the questions

TRAVEL BETWEEN AUSTRALIA AND EUROPE ON A SINGLE FLIGHT NUMBER IS CONSIDERED TRAVELING SW - PACIFIC ASIA-EUROPE THROUGH THREE CONTINENTS. 2/ TRAVEL MUST BE TO/FROM/VIA ADJACENT CONTINENTS IN A CONTINUOUS FORWARD DIRECTION -WITHOUT BACKTRACKING - EXCEPT AS FOLLOWS-- A/ BACKTRACKING PERMITTED WITHIN A CONTINENT EXCEPTION 1-- TRAVEL MAY NOT CONTINUE THROUGH THE ORIGINAL POINT OF ORIGIN UNLESS INDICATED IN THIS RULE. EXCEPTION 2-- BACKTRACKING BETWEEN HAWAII AND THE CONTINENTAL U.S./CANADA IS NOT PERMITTED. B/ TRAVEL BETWEEN NORTH AMERICA AND SOUTH AMERICA IS NOT CONSIDERED BACKTRACKING. C/ TRAVEL BETWEEN EUROPE/MIDEAST AND AFRICA IS NOT CONSIDERED BACKTRACKING. D/ TRAVEL BETWEEN ASIA AND SOUTHWEST PACIFIC IS NOT CONSIDERED BACKTRACKING. E/ TRAVEL BETWEEN ASIA AND AFRICA IS NOT CONSIDERED BACKTRACKING. 3/ WHEN TRAVEL IS VIA THE ATLANTIC AND PACIFIC OCEANS ONLY ONE TRANSATLANTIC FLIGHT AND ONE TRANSPACIFIC FLIGHT PERMITTED. 4/ CIRCLE PACIFIC TRIP JOURNEYS COMPRISED OF TWO TRANSPACIFIC FLIGHTS AND CIRCLE ATLANTIC JOURNEYS COMPRISED OF TWO TRANSATLANTIC FLIGHTS ARE NOT PERMITTED. 5/ ONLY ONE INTERCONTINENTAL DEPARTURE AND ONE INTERCONTINENTAL ARRIVAL IS PERMITTED IN EACH CONTINENT. EXCEPTION 1-- TWO INTERCONTINENTAL ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES PERMITTED IN NORTH AMERICA. EXCEPTION 2-- /APPLICABLE TO JOURNEYS COMPRISED OF A MINIMUM OF FOUR CONTINENTS. TWO INTERCONTINENTAL DEPARTURES AND TWO INTERCONTINENTAL ARRIVALS ARE PERMITTED IN ASIA. ONE OF THE INTERCONTINENTAL ARRIVALS/DEPARTURES MUST BE A TRANSFER WITHOUT STOPOVER BETWEEN THE SOUTHWEST PACIFIC AND EUROPE. EXCEPTION 3-- /APPLICABLE TO JOURNEYS ORIGINATING IN AFRICA EXCEPT SOUTH AFRICA AND ZIMBABWE/ TWO INTERCONTINENTAL ARRIVALS AND TWO INTERCONTINENTAL DEPARTURES ARE PERMITTED IN EUROPE. ONE OF THE INTERCONTINENTAL ARRIVALS/ DEPARTURES MUST BE A TRANSFER /WITHOUT STOPOVER/ IN LONDON OR MADRID ENROUTE BETWEEN AFRICA AND ASIA/AUSTRALIA/NORTH AMERICA/SOUTH AMERICA. 6/ ONLY ONE INTERNATIONAL DEPARTURE AND ONE INTERNATIONAL ARRIVAL FROM/TO THE COUNTRY OF ORIGIN IS PERMITTED EXCEPT AS PROVIDED BELOW. FOR THESE EXCEPTIONS TRAVEL MAY BE VIA THE POINT OF ORIGIN PROVIDED NO STOPOVER IS TAKEN THERE. EXCEPTION 1 - PASSENGERS ORIGINATING IN BRAZIL OR US/CA - INCLUDING PR/VI - MAY HAVE TWO INTERNATIONAL DEPARTURES AND TWO INTERNATIONAL ARRIVALS IN THE COUNTRY OF ORIGIN. ALSO- TRAVEL BETWEEN THE U.S. AND CANADA IS NOT COUNTED AS AN INTERNATIONAL ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE. EXCEPTION 2 - PSGRS ORIGINATING IN AUSTRALIA MAY HAVE TWO INTERNATIONAL DEPARTURES AND TWO INTERNATIONAL ARRIVALS IN THE COUNTRY OF ORIGIN WHEN AN ITINERARY INCLUDES TRAVEL VIA NEW ZEALAND/ TAHITI/NEW GUINEA. 7/ UNLIMITED ONLINE/INTERLINE TRANSFERS PERMITTED BETWEEN AA/AY/BA/CX/EI/IB/LA/QF/DI/LP SUBJECT TO FLIGHT SEGMENT RESTRICTIONS. 8/ INTERMEDIATE SURFACE SECTORS ARE PERMITTED AT THE PASSENGERS EXPENSE. SURFACE SECTORS ARE COUNTED AS ONE STOPOVER. WHEN CONTINENTS ARE CROSSED BY SURFACE THE STOPOVER MAY BE COUNTED ON EITHER CONTINENT. 9/ TRAVEL ON ANY AA/AY/BA/CX/EI/IB/LA/QF/DI/LP CODESHARE SERVICE OPERATED BY AA/AY/BA/CX/EI IB/LA/QF/DI/LP IS PERMITTED. ALL OTHER CODESHARE FLIGHTS ARE NOT PERMITTED. EXCEPTION-- TRAVEL NOT PERMITTED ON CX FLIGHTS 760-769/790-799/1000-1119/1290-1299/1748-1749. GROUND TRANSPORTATION SERVICES OPERATED BY BA/CX/QF/DI MAY NOT BE INCLUDED AS PART OF THE ONE WORLD EXPLORER FARE. i wish i'd known about some of these suggestions for getting the most miles on a rtw. i finished my run a couple of weeks ago, and could have apparently gotten many many more miles.

Unterwegs posts some rules for RTW fares but according to AA and the new oneworld brochure many of these rules have changed.
I will post the new brochure soon but it is not a complete rule listing. Anyone get the new rules? |
This is wonderful info, so please excuse my silly question (due to the jetlag) but does 3544quebec's definition mean that "34 segment path: 110701 mi" qualify one for Exec Plat on AA? Has anyone actually done it and achieved the results?
