What US airline can I get Lan Chile flights using US based points?
I want to fly Lan Chile in December to Falkland Islands for Xmas Day. SCL-MPN Dec 20, and MPN-SCL Dec 27. There is I hope, SOME US airline that allows me to use points to redeem flights on Lan Chile? I also have a lot of Qantas points .. not sure if I can use them to get Lan Chile tickets? I do not need flights to SCL ex USA, as I'll fly UA ex MIA, and get those luvvverrly TRIPLE points based on their new bonus. I have big hoard points in the Starwood scheme, which can be transferred to pretty much ANY major airline I think .... maybe even Lan Chile? Randy does not have a forum for Lan Chile, so I guess here is the place to ask as they are a One World carrier? I don’t imagine Lan Chile has an office here, (and anyhow it is 3.00 am here!) but if anyone knows a US airline that does offer flight rewards on Lan Chile, please lets know. They run a 737 both ways, so presumably have business class seats fitted, so maybe they can be sought as reward seats? And the other thing that may kill me is blackout dates, as this trip encompasses Xmas - please advise if there are any printed blackout dates if they are showing. A web search showed revenue tickets to be about $US620 each r/t, so I'd rather burn some points if I can. Maybe if then blackout dates exclude points use, someone may know WHERE to source Lan Chile tix at other than full Y fare? Or they may be some kind of Lan Chile coupon pass system good for South American region flights? ------------------ ~ Glen ~ [This message has been edited by ozstamps (edited 08-23-2000).] |
American would be the only logical choice--probably similar award levels to QF.
only issue might be the Falklands (is that a typical scheduled flight or some charter/hybrid)? jl |
www.travel.com.au computer brings it up as a 737 flight, so THINK itis a scheduled intra South America return flight. LA 991 and LA 990.
They publish fares so think it is kosher. There must be some QF points I can use to get these, but thought someone might know! OR point me to where I can avoid paying full Y class for the darn thing! ------------------ ~ Glen ~ |
AA: 25,000 for economy, 35 for business, 60 for first, for any Lan Chile flights in South America beyond internal Chilean flights.
Qantas can tell you about their awards. Their web site doesn't have the info, but it looks like it hasn't been updated since Lan Chile joined oneWorld - it still thinks June 1, 2000 (in the context of Canadian Airlines leaving OW) is in the future! BTW, isn't this the same question you posted in General TravelTalk? [This message has been edited by Efrem (edited 08-23-2000).] |
Thanks efrem .. thats a good start, and yes, I think it would be regarded as a "South American" award, despite Falklands being VERY much a British Commonwealth country. Yes someone there gave me the heads up Lan Chile was a OneWorld memeber, and Randy has no Lan Chile board (but does have one for Tarom Romanian Airlines!) so thought someone here might have the info. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ------------------ ~ Glen ~ |
My other thought was buying a 4 or 5 coupon "Lan Chile" South America type pass that allowed me to go to both Falklands and say Northern Chile. Those passes are often REAL cheap (comapred to Y tickets) as long as you buy them OUTSIDE the country, but the airline does need to offer it, and again, have no idea what Lan Chile do re these. ------------------ ~ Glen ~ |
