Rookie needs creative 1world rtw routing help!

i have july & aug. free & want 1world bonus & maximum miles. I live in NY & have to be in SJO july 3-22. all open after. i'm new to this site & so this will be my first time flying for a bonus. i'm AA plat (the old fashioned way) & need routing help. should i buy 6 cont. on rtw in coach or 3 or 4 in bz? is it better to fly far to get most miles(aukland/capetown i.e.)? am i starting this too late? how do i book/get flights? i wouldn't mind including SEZ or NOU or MRU or SIN in itinerary. is there an easy way to enroll in all bonus programs/specials or one at a time.this is all new to me, and i need help from the experts! thanks.

Definately buy the 4 cont Business fare. Your round trip to SJO will not cost you any more (as its part of North America for the ticket) but for AA rules, it's part of South America. There you go - your second continent already (the first being your arrival back in the US).

Now just keep taking it around the world. Remember there is no stop over rule for AA so that will help. I'd pick up a leg LHR->CAI->MAD->LHR (BA, IB, BA). It's a lot more miles then going LHR->CAI->LHR but you still get Africa plus it's a bit of fun.

When planning mine (still not sure if I am going) I had a few things I wanted to do (work in SJC, go to BOS to see Harvard, return via ADL etc) so when planning I kept those in mind. You've got some things you want so fit those in.

It's up to you wether you fly bizarre combinations to get there - all I can say is I couldn't do the 100% best route because I was trying to pick up everything in a week (which I have managed) so I needed to be flexible.

As for buying them, most major travel agents will sell the OW 4 Continent Business Fare. It may actually be cheaper to buy when you leave from Canada but I'll let others comment on that.

Come up with a draft, post it here and we'll help you out. That's much easier then helping you from the beginning.

Oh and you are not starting too late by any means. There's still over 2 months to go - we'll sort you out.
