OW RTW Explorer Fare Info

Sounds like the most efficient way to get the 100K bonus(es) is to go on a RTW fare.

Is there a place where I can get price (and rules) info for the various fare types. I remember seeing a great FT link for *A RTW fares, but I haven't come across one for OW. Thanks!

Also, does someone have a link for the rules governing the RTW fares, ie # stops, max miles, etc ? When I called the RTW desk at AA today, the agent did not know of any online source for the fares or rules. That same agent checked with the Aadvantage desk and stated that economy fares (class M) did earn miles on all OW partners, at least for AA. This is starting to make the Latin Pass bonus seem tame by comparison.

For the Australian fare rules, check out http://www.travel.com.au

Look at my other post. CX, IB (exc. trans-Atlantic) and EI do not give miles in AA. It's on the AA.com site.

For the link posted above, go to the Europe link. It isn't too obvious where the RTW fares are placed.

There are 2 types of RTW. The first is the Explorer which is mileage-based (27k with a maximum of 8k additional mileage purchaseable in 500 mile blocks. Only 6 stops allowed (have to pay for additional ones.

The second is the Continent fare where you buy it for 3, 4, 5 & 6 continents. You need the 4 continent fare to get the 100K.

Here are the general rules
No maximum mileage, 3 stops (there is a catch in continent-of-origin) in any continent

Continent sectors
Europe & ME 4 (only 2 to/fro M-E)
Africa 4
Asia 5
Pacific 4
N. America 6
S. America 4

FWIW. according to BA in Beijing, OW explorer fares are (# continents, Economy, Biz, First):

3, 20320, 32960, 45690
4, 24380, 39540, 54830
5, 28035, 45470, 63040
6, 32250, 52300, 72510

current credit card exchange rate is about RMB 8.10 to US$1.00

In reality, ex PEK is probably not the best option for the OW continents challenge since you can only fly to Europe or Australia direct from here.

Anyone have the ex-USA fares?

YVR Cockroach Jun 8, 2000 10:15 pm

The fares ex-PEK seem to be rather exhorbitant and don't seem to account got PPP differences.

I don't have the current ex-U.S. prices but the Canadian D-class 3 Continents fare is C$5,739+tax (approx. US$3,800)

FWIW, the 28,500 miles Explorer fare is C$6,467 (US$4,300)

I posted ex-BKK fares a few weeks ago

It doesn't surprise me that the OW fares seem steep. The only good thing about Chinese airfares is that they have been stable (read: regulated) for nearly three years. On the downside, there is absolutely no competition on the HKG-China flights, so you end up with little discounting off the Y fares (unless you end up flying on some holiday air/hotel package on Dragonair)

Would I be right in assuming that there is no miles on BA LHR->NRT? AA.com's guide to earning miles does not refer to M Class (the class for RTW Economy fares) - so do we need to add this leg to the not for AA pile in addition to the above? Or is it for some reason not booked in M or and AA.com missprint?

Rereading it, I wonder if any of LHR->CAI, SNN->LHR, LHR->HKG would count. Anyone know?

Addendum

....ERM I've just realise region refers to where you live. As an Australia Resident I'll be fine.

Excuse me while I get my head checked http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
