Qantas
Just got notice today I'll be travelling from HKG - MEL or SYD sometime next week on QF. I am a CP ExecPlat member, what fare are eligible for points? I will probably be travelling on a very low Y class fare or even a group fare.
Any special benefits I get as a OneWorld Emerald member? I know Upgrades are defintely out of the question. Empress |
You get a fair bit..Qantas club lounge access, business class checkin, optional
seat allocation if you want it. Even an upgrade is a possibility if the flight is full in economy. |
Sorry..make that First class checkin!
|
So far the flight doesn't look full so far so I guess upgrades won't be a possibility and knowing the attitudes of some of HKG's agent, I am not looking high on it. So does it worth asking?
The problem is that the company are sending us as a group so we are most likely to travel on a group fare and that's what I am most concern about... whether I will get any status miles, that trip will easily give me 10K Q miles... Empress |
Empress,
You are right that the HK check-in agents don't usually give upgrades unless the planes are full. However, when you get to the lounge, you can ask them to block the seat next to you so you will have a slightly nicer flight. I have traveled that route once in economy last year and it worked. |
My understanding is that any published fare, regardless of how discounted it may be, is eligible as long as it is published.
|
From my opinion, even though you are a 1w Emerald member, due to the fact that CP is leaving very soon, they may not provide the same level of recognition as before. This was experienced by my friend a week ago on BA. I understand it totally depends on the agent, but still always think we, CP members are now sort of in the second-class tier.
Empress, when will u be in HK? I have already come back, quite hot recently |
My travel plans are as follow Chatter:
May 23 CP 987/7 YYZ - YVR - HKG May 28 QF ?? HKG - SYD/MEL Jun 3 QF ?? MEL/SYD - HKG Jun 5 CP 8/994 HKG - YVR - YYZ I've heard that temps are in the low 30s celcius in HK.. oh no!... I hate hot! I don't think I'll get any reconition anyways as we are travelling as a group and I am almost sure I'll be the only one with OW Emerald or even status in OW. So does a tour/group fare count as "published" fare? Empress |
The June 3 return date from Australia is going to be the teething one to say the least. That is the official cut off date when CP leaves Qantas' programme and vice versa. So you may NOT get credit for that flight sector.
All in all, QANTAS staff has nenevr in my opinion come round in economy class anyway to greet other OW top tier members. CX seem to be the only one that does. Note that too, your lounge access will disappear on June 3rd as well. Unless y ou hold another OW card. |
I was told by CP ExecPlat desk that I can still accrue points on Qantas until July 3. However, points after May 31 will not count as status miles http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif which means I will lose out on 5000 or so status miles.
I want to know does Qantas has a policy off leaving the seat beside me empty when travelling in Y class as a OW Emerald? |
Empress,
I have had QF blocked the seat next to me the one time I was traveling in Y class last year. I asked for them to do that when I was in the lounge where I find they have more time to do that. |
All of you CP Exec Plat members..just so you know..most of the AA employees are really hurting for you. Perhaps at some future point AA will have more flights in and out of Canada and you can become Exec Plat in our program..best of luck to you all!

EMPRESS Don't waste those QF miles. Sign onto AAdvantage and put the return flights into that new account. Also ask to participate in Gold or Platinum Challenge and make the trips worth something towards accelerated elite. You just need 20K miles on oneworld carriers, andfour flights on AA to qualify. You can then regain oneworld status and lounge use (once you get Platinum). See discussion of Challenge on AA forum if you haven't already explored this option.
