Status Bonus Miles on Oneworld vs *A
It appears that AAdvantage status BONUS miles are earned on all OW carriers. This is different from *A where UA status BONUS miles are only earned on UA and maybe LH. Can anyone confirm? Also, is there an online way to identify "eligible fares" or must one call? Thanks!

LH's miles&more program doesn't give any status bonus (but treshhold-bonus for achieving/requalifying FrequentFlier and Senator status) - but LH credits 100% bonus for paid business and 200% bonus for paid first, and those bonus count as status miles too!

but I guess (your title Oneworld vs *A did probably misslead me) you wanted a comparison of UA's to AA's frequentflier-programs handling status miles when flying their partners.

Warrenlm: You are correct. UA provides the 25%/100% elite-level mileage bonus only on UA-operated flights (and a few LH ... I always forget which). With AA, you earn this elite-level mileage bonus on ANY oneworld carrier. It's why I always choose oneworld carriers on routes that UA doesn't serve (for example, BKK-SYD is flown by TG, BA, and QF .. BA and QF earn me twice the miles as TG). It also makes it easier for me to justify flying high-quality carriers to Australia (QF) or to Asia (CX)!
BA Exec Club gives the elite-level mileage bonus only on BA and a few, but not all, other oneworld carriers. |
This is definitely one of the advantages of AA. They do give status bonus to all 1w flights.
On BA, they give status bonus to BA, AA (non-transatlantic), and QF flights. However, QF bonus is only temporary. Apparently, it was a misprint in the information, but they are honoring QF bonuses until the problem is rectified. |
This is not true of all Star Alliance partners. Air Canada gives status bonus miles (ie threshold bonuses) on all Star Alliance flights.
