Another gotcha when dealing with multiple 100K
 
This is to share the information of another possible problem in dealing with multiple 100K promos.

To safely credit flights on a single ticket to different accounts it seems preferable not to give a FF number at flight time but to send in the boarding passes afterwards.
Here is a possible problem in doing so.

To credit a missing flight to my QF account I sent a copy of a IB boarding pass and a ticket copy of my oneworld RTW to Qantas.
The ticket had twelve flights on it. Half of them were already credited to QF the rest went on a BA account.

Today I received a letter from Qantas saying that they have tried not only to credit the IB flight but also all the others!
Luckily they were already taken by BA. This would have spoiled my double bonus.

My recommendation is to send in ONLY the boarding pass to avoid this situation. Hope this helps others.

This is very true, and very frustrating. I've had to call all over the place trying to move flights around.

However!!!! I have found that some airlines don't check what is credited elsewhere. I've had my 5 IB flights credited for 10 total segments (5 on AY, 1 on CP, 2 on QF and 2 on CX). Five AY flights have increased to 7 segments. I didn't plan this, but they seem to go ahead and credit them anyway.

Hmmm...
Someone could take this idea further and let's say open more accounts with different, not yet used carriers and try to credit the flights more than once.
What would be the chance of success and possible penalties?

I think double dipping will be more difficult. It seems that at least AAdvantage used to just takes the flights at face value and credit them (back in 1996). Now they get the partner airline to process them (or so they claim). Of course, if you want to send it in and they want to process at face value.....

I am not suggesting any misuse here.
I was just amazed by toppshelff's claim that he had a couple of flights credited more than once.
A perfectly innocent member could have a ticket with let's say five flights and he only wants to credit one flight per FF program. He sends in the ONE boarding pass and a ticket copy. If it is the standard airline procedure to credit all flights on his ticket he can't be blamed for any wrong doing.

Let's see....let's imagine that everyone of us here have sent in some sort of correspondence to at least one airline ff programme. Multiply that by about 20 for the days' worth. Add to that long winded letters about crediting this to this and not that flight to this....

I would say, that on average, an airline ff employee only has say 10 minutes per letter and try to sort out the 'not applicable' to the junk pile.

So I would say, please be dlilgent and patient. I am sure they are doing the best they can. I still have unanswered questions that I have been battling with CP since October and each time I receive a response, it seems that the information gets distorted more and more.

I know that StarAlliance (for sure LH and UA) have, since at least mid-1998 a SHARED computer-Info system to make sure that mileage-claims for same flights&passenger are not credited into 2 different programs

a good friend of mine was nevertheless able to slip through a system-hole (LH & UA in 98), when he had (by check-in-agents) two different boarding passes with different seats/classes after upgrade (one=first, the other one business)

Another piece of information.
Today a FF representative told me regarding a still missing flight on an account that they will lastly credit the flight even without confirmation from the actual carrier.

My educated guess as a professional database developer here is that they can't find a trace of this flights pax list.

Only a really mean FF would capitalize on this.

i had three cp flights credited both on aa and cp. i had sent a letter in to cp asking for only one flight, but they put them all in.

i don't think it's my fault if they can't understand english. they're not the airline based in montreal. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Interesting.
They seem to have a bigger problem here. I thought this matter only relates to the new carriers IB and AY.
Reads like pure confusion.

A friend of mine has had all of his CP/AA codeshare flights that were operated by CP post in J class when AA electronic upgrades were used.

- Two years ago, I had several domestic BA flights, on which I presented an AA card, posted to both BA and AA. (The BA were automatic, and the AA were mailed in.)

- Before Euro members were unceremoniously kicked out of NorthWest a couple of years back, I used NW miles to book a free KLM transatlantic trip, and actually earned NW points on this trip! And then, when NW transferred my points to KLM Flying Dutchman, they boobed and transferred them twice. I ended up with enough points for another free KLM trip! [Incidentally, Flying Dutchman has to be about the meanest program I've come across. Consequence: NorthWest has not had my business for two years.]

Having a bad experience with an AA codeshare flight. Left the FF number blank on the outbound YVR-SFO section and gave my CP number for the flight. The outbound flight duly shows up on my CP account. Not what I want. Call CP to have them remove it and have BA Canada credit it. Next, the return flight credits as a CP flight and not an AA flight. Ask CP to fix it and they do, putting in a reversal as the statement for December had just been fixed.

Next, I find both flights had credited as AA flights to my BA account (not what I want either) so I called BA to take out the outbound and ask CP to credit it. I hope ot gets sorted out!

No credit on my AY flight either. WOnder how long it takes AA to make the request of AY and for Ay to credit it to my account.
