Taking a cue from Rudi, I think it would be useful to find out the different prices of oneWorld Explorer fares in various parts of the globe. Also, what variations in rules might exist, particularly in relation to ff miles/status accumulation.

To start off, in Singapore the prices published for F/C/Y in SGD:

Status/Mileage accumulation is complex based on ff program and class of booking. e.g. an AA ff will receive miles and status for all AA flights, but for other oneWorld partner flights it depends on the airline and class of service. First and Business will give miles and status on all, Economy will give miles and status on some BA, all QF, all CP and no CX flights.

If others out there can post the info on their ff program I will collate and post a consolidated picture.

It can't hurt (us as consumers) to know all options and to be competition-aware (and to show the airlines that we know).

"Discounted" economy class fares will garner only 50% on Cathay Pacific's FF programme, AsiaMiles. How they mean by 'discount'? Any code booked on your ticket that does not say Y (on CP, AA , CX, QF) and S (on BA), will onloy get 50% of the total miles flown.

The Global Explorer clearly states that you must book on certain 'sub-classes' so that would mean you will not be getting full mileage on AsiaMiles.

PS - Does anyone know how to get the new Cathay Pacific thread going?

Celestar: I don't like to contradict, but I believe you are mistaken. Certainly with BA you get all or nothing, there is no fare which gives you 50% of miles.

My understanding is that explorer Economy tickets with BA are in S class, which get both full miles and status points.

Merry: I think Celestar is referring to mileage accrual in Cathay's own Asia Miles Program. The rules are pretty clear (from their own terms):

Air Travel Credits
3. The ‘Actual Mileage Credits’ earned is a proportion, based on Class flown or fare paid, of the great circle distance as outlined in the Membership Guide and as
published from time to time by CPLP. There is no minimum mileage guarantee.
4. Economy Class Discounted Tickets are eligible for a Mileage Credit of 50% of the actual mileage flown. All other qualifying Economy Class tickets are credited at 100% of the actual mileage flown. Eligibility for 50% mileage credit is based on the sub-class booked and shown on the air ticket, these sub-classes are listed below, changes are published from time to time and available from CPLP :
Cathay Pacific Airways B, H, M, V, T, K
British Airways B, H, M, V, T, K, U, Q
American Airlines® Please contact CPLP for details
Canadian™ Airlines A, B, G, H, K, M, N, O, P, Q, R, V, W, X, Z

Some of these are not that heavily discounted either. Canadian's B fares are pretty close to full fare in a lot of cases.

This is a problem with some airlines giving (not giving?) credit in other ff programs, e.g. AC only gives 50% of mileage on its discounted flights within Canada; Thai flights only earn 50% in UA's Mileage Plus etc.

With regard to Canadian's "M" fares -- they are the "dirt cheap" fares, i.e. Web Specials, promotional, seed fares, etc. Of late, M fares, as well as K fares, have been excluded from some double and triple points promotions. But you are right about the "B" fares. They can sometimes be higher than a Y1 or Y2 (Y class) fare.

That's right about M (have removed from previous post). Fly too much on Air Canada I guess where M is like B on Canadian.

Clarification on booking codes for oneWorld explorer tickets. (According to the latested update of the rules I have in front of me).

Prior to 30 October 1999 (First/Business/Economy):

AA J/S/M
BA A/D/M
CP F/C/M
CX A/D/M
QF A/D/M

After 30 October 1999:

All oneWorld carriers will use the same codes which are:

First: A
Business: D
Economy: M

I'd like to think American listened to my ranting and raving about making the codes consistent http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

As I said in my original post you should be pretty safe in regards to mileage and status accumulation if you book first or business. Economy will be another story.
