How Do I Make Use of This Seamless OneWorld Alliance?
 

I have my transatlantic flight over from the UK to BOS already sorted and booked but I now need to book BOS-MCO-BOS connections.

Being a Silver BA Exec Club member I tried to do this on ba.com as I assumed it would ticket me on AA metal, but with codeshare BA flight numbers. But on ba.com I simply got a message that pretty much said BA do not fly that route. This is strange because I do defintely know AA offer BOS-MCO flights.

So then I went on aa.com and looked to see if I could enter my BA Exec Club number and book the flights, but I cannot see any way of doing this....only seemingly able to enter an AAdvantage number.

So how does this OneWorld alliance work then? I don't seem able to either:

a) book an AA flight on ba.com or;
b) book a flight on aa.com with my Exec Club being credited?

You can not book BA flight# on an AA US segment without a transatlantic flight being on same reservation. You have to book as AA flight number between BOS-MCO.

Are you confusing the page where it optionally asks you to log on to your AA account? If you hit continue you can enter you BA number into the booking along with the passenger names etc on the following page.

You're able to enter your BA number during booking or after booking in the manage my reservation section of AA.com

Thank you for all the replies. I should add I booked the LHR-BOS-LHR as a BA Miles redemption. I tried to book the whole LON-MCO return with BA Miles but it wouldn't offer anything at all, either on BA's non-stop LGW-MCO or via any AA hub such as ORD, DFW or CLT etc.

So it looks like I will have to book the BOS-MCO-BOS on aa.com and will enter my BA Exec Club # as part of the booking process.

Have you call BA? ba.com is very limited in flight options presented.

OP is looking at a sea of disappointments if he persists in a belief that there's anything 'seamless' about OneWorld, lol. There are seams everywhere, many of them unraveled.

One thing that is somewhat effective, though, is the ability to book award travel on one OW carrier using miles from a different carrier's account. Not necessarily with 'native' availability or pricing, but generally doable.

But finding and booking non-native flights can be a bit challenging. Native to AA, I sometimes use BA avios and see non-BA availability (including on AA within the U.S.) so if OP looked for BOS-MCO award seats and didn't see any there probably weren't any. Trying that request on aa.com will answer that question.

BTW AA appears to value its FF miles at about a penny, for coach domestic travel. Thus if a 'saaver' award is available for 12,500 miles, you'll find a cash fare for about $125.

That is incorrect. When available, a domestic (contiguous U.S., Alaska, and Canada) "SAAver" award costs 12,500 AA miles one way in Economy, regardless of route. A cash ticket on the same flight might cost $50 -- or several hundred!

The only nonstop service between BOS and MCO is on DL and B6; anything on AA will involve a stop -- and probably a connection -- at JFK, PHL, CLT, DCA, ORD, or MIA. (I'm not sure if AA offers any BOS-MCO through-flights.)

Sorry folks but another quick question. Does being a BA Silver offer any benefits on AA domestic flights with regards to checked-in baggage allowance?

Am looking at the fare structure for my BOS-MCO connection and the fares seem to be Choice (no checked bag) or Choice Plus (one checked bag allowed).

But does a BA Silver get a free checked bag allowance on a Choice fare?

Think have answered my own question.....I get one piece of checked baggage regardless of fare?
