LHR-SYD J Class on oneworld
Hi all, new to Flyertalk here. I'll beflying from London to Sydney in January. Which oneworld airlines have the best business class product on this route? Any trip reports?
Thanks for your help |
LHR-SYD J Class on oneworld
I don't think any airline--Oneworld or not--has a better J product than Cathay Pacific. If you can get an all 380/787 itinerary, Qatar wouldn't be far behind, though.

QR doesn't fly to SYD.
So if you want direct, your only choices are ... BA, CX, JL, MH. Other than BA, all must fly via their respective hubs. |

QF codeshares some flights with EK QR want to fly into SYD from newsaper reports a few months ago. |

Options on oneworld between LHR and SYD are: via HKG with BA/CX via NRT with BA/JL/QF via KUL with MH via SIN with BA/QF via BKK with BA/QF via DXB with QF via PVG with BA/QF via DOH with QR can get you to PER or MEL. |

Thanks for your help If you fancy something out of the ordinary, AA publishes London-Sydney fares; via the US of course and codesharing on QF's TPAC flights |

Even if the BA LHR-SIN-SYD route is with their new A380, I think most people would would agree that the CX product is superior overall.

If considering QF or BA:
On the LHR-SYD run, I'd opt for the longest leg into SYD and the shortest leg ex LHR. This is to maximise sleep if the SYD arrival is in the morning (as per most flights into SYD. QF fits this criteria pretty well. BA is the opposite. To fly (BA) SIN-SYD with a morning SYD arrival makes for a very long SYD arrival day - and very little sleep hours on the aircraft. The (QF) DXB-SYD sector makes far more sense to me. |
My vote goes to CX.
If you want to fly direct then my vote goes to QF as BA would charge you for seat assignment (unless you hold OWS status or higher) plus BA food is really awful these days. PS. Welcome to FT! |
Thanks everyone. I decided to go with CX as most have suggested here.

Thanks for all the replies, very helpful. Booked CX per most have suggested.

LHR-SYD is One Flight on QF or BA
While I agree that CX J is probably the superior product in-flight, another consideration on this site is the # of segments used (this is germane for the RTW products which are limited to 16-segments).
Only BA & QF offer a through flight (i.e., same flight #) LHR-SYD: QF2 or BA15. The CX flights are connecting & entail 2 segments. |
