Through-Check & Connection Questions

I'm buying 2 different tickets for this itinerary so I'm a bit concerned about tight connections. However, they're all with OW so hopefully that would make it a bit better.

The tight connections are is this:

Code:

UL225: CMB-DXB

DEP: 6:25pm

ARR: 9:40pm



Connecting



CX738: DXB-HKG-EWR

DEP: 11:00PM

ARR: 11:05AM

My concern is with the 80 min transit time too risky? Also they're on separate tickets so would I be able to through-check my luggage from CMB-DXB-HKG-EWR?

Second Tight Connection:

Code:

LAX-HKG-DXB: CX897 + CX731

DEP: 9:40AM

ARR: 3:25PM



Connecting in HKG



DEP: 4:30PM

ARR: 8:55PM



Connecting in DXB-CMB-SIN UL226+302



DEP: 10:45PM

ARR: 4:55AM

With this I only have 65 min connection at HKG and around 110 mins at DXB. Would my luggage be through-checked all the way to SIN? Also... Would I have any recourse if the delay at LAX makes me miss my connection from DXB-CMB-SIN?

Edit: Do you guys recommend that maybe I should take a earlier flight to DXB from LAX/HKG and just spend 16 hours in DXB? =\

Which tickets will each flight be on?

CX will be DXB-HKG-JFK/LAX-HKG-DXB
UL will be SYD-BKK-CMB-DXB-CMB-SIN-SYD

So you have a CX DXB-US-DXB nested within a UL SYD-DXB-SYD?

Pretty much. But I actually have purposes for the SYD-DXB-SYD trip. I don't know if I would really call it nesting though...
