The exCAI fares have been around for a long time (prior to QR joining OW). Most of the west coast US locations are the same price or you can go further for slightly better EQP. Roundtrips bring the cent/point down as they are only about $1,000 more than the oneway. Booking to anywhere besides a QR destination requires a TA as QR.com and other OTAs crap out.
