Look at the route map and timetable/schedule in www.oneworld.com

Mileage Monkey is a good start http://www.slfft.org/mm/award.htm

Found this link too: http://onw.innosked.com/?show=MAP

btw- does anyone if there will be any complications of booking a RT ticket from NYC to Japan that extends about 3mo? That is, I would fly to Japan, start my RTW trip, and end back in Japan some 3mo later to fly back to NYC.

Curious if I'll get flagged with any wanting to move there or work there questions. I'll be Japan physically for a little over a week during this period.

Thanks!

When using the map be sure to un-check the "codeshares" box if you're using it to plan an RTW.

No, "nesting" an RTW within a regular RT ticket is done all the time. I've done it from NRT on more than one occasion.

Just waiting on confirmation of price and then I will book. Hope to have it in the next day or so.

Another question if I may... Do you guys do travel insurance when you RTW? If so, what do you recommend? As always, thanks very much in advance!

Absolutely. To me the main requirement is medical & medical repatriation. Your USA heath insurance is unlikely to cover you out of USA. Lost/stolen baggage, phones, computer & travel disruption are secondary. I never travel with any thing I want to keep for ever or that is very important. Am always prepared to just walk away from every thing I am travelling with. Travelled the world for 4 years with less than 20lbs (in the days before mobile phones & laptops)

There are threads on FT on travel insurance

We've probably flown ~2M "recreational" miles - early travel was on bucket-shop tix with no FF miles, so no one was counting - to every place on earth and have never regretted not having travel insurance.

I guess the standard policies are quite inexpensive though, since the insurer seldom has to pay a claim, so perhaps "why not?" is a good working plan.

At the other end of the range, the operator of an expedition-ship tour of the northern fringes of Antarctica* required repatriation insurance, and we settled for an outfit called Global Rescue. They'll actually deploy resources to pull you out of the crevasse you fell into, and (if you've opted for the coverage) have a contingent of ex-U.S. Navy Seals ready to help get you out of a geo-political pickle. (My wife keeps threatening to invent a need for them.) I didn't quite believe they existed (tho the company hoots about their deeds in a quarterly newsletter) until I asked one of their office girls I was on the phone with. "Yeah, they come into the office once in a while, giggle, giggle..."

So I need to get to NRT from NYC. China Air has flights ~1000 while AA is closer to ~1800. I see China Air codeshares with Hawaiian as does AA. I don't suppose there's some transitive property rule I could take advantage of as I'd really like to be able to upgrade on the trip back :D

Not sure which cabin, travel date(s) or if the prices were r/t a/ but for o/w a/i ITA found $509 on 26/27 Apr, AA 321 JFK-LAX thence MH (codeshare on JL) 777.

Thanks. Looked this morning and it looks like a Sat-Mon (+2day) flight. I fly out Tues so it would be a brief stay (I need to fly out of NYC on 4/18 or 4/19). Though now I can't even find it (or the $1000 China Air flight) anymore. Suppose I need to search again at 2-3a :-)

Gardyloo Mar 19, 2014 6:33 pm

Do you have any AA miles already? Look at ICN then a 10K AA redemption one way to TYO. I'm seeing $1100 fares on AA metal for 90+ day returns.

nguyenm9 Mar 19, 2014 6:44 pm

I currently have zero ff miles. Where are you looking? I see nothing less than $1800 for a RT from NYC-NRT.

No, I'm looking at NYC-ICN - Seoul, $1160 out on 4/17, back on 7/23 (on aa.com) . Round trips from Seoul to Tokyo are around $400; one-ways $300. Or you could buy 10,000 miles from AA for $275 and redeem them for a one-way award trip for the April segment, then use your accumulated miles for the return to ICN when you're done with the RTW.

nguyenm9 Mar 19, 2014 7:18 pm

Hm... I see an NYC->ICN with a stopover in NRT for ~1200. Don't suppose I could just jump off :-). Odd how pricing works...

nguyenm9 Mar 21, 2014 8:05 am

Just realized I need to grab some visa for doha, moscow, australia. A couple of calls on friday resulted in no answers, voice mails, and busy signals. Looks like a painful path... any side doors for visas available? tx

That's totally possible ^. Just time the NRT-ICN leg for when you get back from your RTW. Don't try miss a segment or the rest of your flights will be cancelled.

By the way, AA do the same trip (JFK-NRT-ICN) in business for $3300 for your dates. Pretty damn good deal IMO and worth the extra if you are flying the rest of the itinerary in style (.. why start and finish with a 14hr flight in Y)
