Quantas points on Cathay flight with AA flight #??
 

Ok this might be showing my youth but I am looking at kicking the year off with a bang. Headed to BKK from CLT.

The flights are being booked under AA site so they count as AA miles even though four of the flights are operated by Cathay.

With all that said, is it wise to get a Quantas FF account to obtain the credit for these flights? Wouldn't I obtain higher OW status more quickly than regular AA?

Also are their any hiccups with this scenario?

Why is that youthful? I'm going to TH in Feb & Apr and I'm likely a bit older than you! Purists are gonna let you know there is no 'U' in Qantas' name, but I smell what yer cooking. Don't see how enrolling in QF FFP will benefit you to a greater extent than AA's: r/t CLT ORD HKG BKK is about 18,800 miles leaving you only 6,200 miles short if first elite level (Gold; OW Ruby)--if you happened to book in my fav Premium Economy [I like me some biz too but normal peeps don't generally buy those seats on leisure; if they do, they shouldn't be looking for 'steals' or tricks here], you'll qualify Gold on return flights by points. Since you booked a codeshare, and yer eager for status, enroll in Platinum Challenge and depending on tix bought, you could be midtier status all of 2014. I'd certainly look/consider the PEY on CX for flights of those lengths...

AA is a far better freq flyer program than QF by a very large margin.

The earn/burn of AA miles is far better than with QF. 1 AA mile is worth a lot more than 1 QF point for what it can get you. While flying first & busines class flights may get you to high status on QF ffp with less flights than AA ffp, AA is still a far better program overall. But as above sign up for challenge.

Any one living in USA would be crazy to use QF FFP instead of AA FFP as their main program.

Also with to attain / maintain QF status you need to fly 4 QF segments.

If your flight has an AA code share then you will be eligible for status credit etc. under the AA table of the QF FFP. However, I want to advise you the fact that QF points have less values in them which might end up balancing out

It really depends on the booking class and routing, how much you will be flying and whether you will be able to fly on four QF flight numbers as well.

Not necessarily - I know of a few USA resident SG's who are also EXP.

By youth, I was referring to being a newbie on here. Looks like I will go the AA route and try the challenge as well.
