Oneworld LON > Cuba?

Hello there,

I'm planning a visit to Cuba in May. I live in London.

My partner and I have Oneworld status, but it appears that only Virgin Atlantic or Star Alliance have any logical routes from London to Havana.

It appears you could fly to Cancun/Nassau and hop across on a regional airline, but it's all a bit of a headache :(

Has anyone tried the route before using Oneworld? Are there any recommendations? I'm half tempted to stuff the status and just fly VA, but....!

Cheers :)

Oneworld LON > Cuba?

You could fly BA to YYZ and fly on AC to Havana.

Iberia cancelled their HAV flights earlier this year but Air Berlin flies to Varadero from DUS, MUC weekly.

I flew out of HAV to Nassau on Bahamas Air (short 1hr flight if I recall) and connected on BA to LHR. The timing wasn't perfect but it worked fine.

Panama is another easy city to fly to Havana from. Copa's pricing to HAV is about the same from e.g. Bogota, too.

Within Oneworld, LAN Peru has a direct flight to HAV from LIM. TACA flies this route, too.

Thanks very much all,

Air Berlin would be the best bet but annoying the site only gives me availability up to May 2014.

Going to investigate other routes, especially from Toronto as suggested - if the main leg can be done BA at least get the little niceties at Heathrow etc!

Probably going next year at some point. I was thinking of going BA to Mexico City and then getting a flight from there. I hear there are lots of options once in Mexico but I have not looked into the situation yet.

Curious would be cheaper and more effective in terms of Tier Points, LON to DUS then Havana via Air Berlin or LHR to Mexico City via BA.
