reroute fee
Just to confirm...
I recently had a DONE3 ticketed (by CX) for departure ex HND in mid October. I may need to change a stop over (-SFO-xORD-ATL-ORD- to -SFO-xDFW-RDU-ORD-). Would this trigger a reprice if I did it before departing Tokyo, or just the $125USD fee either before or after departure? The only time I've done a routing change on an xONEx was on the back of government travel warnings and airline wavers (BKK riots a few years ago), so didn't cost anything. |
Do the change after your departure otherwise it will be repriced with possibly new taxes added. If the fare has changed, you will pay new price.

From Oneworld Explorer Rules 2013 July 01.pdf
11. VOLUNTARY CHANGES/REROUTING/PENALTIES Fees as described below may be waived in case of certified death/illness of the passenger or passenger’s immediate family member or accompanying passenger. Local service fees may apply on rebooking, rerouting, reissue or refund. (a) Rebooking/Rerouting (1) Prior to departure a) Changes to date/time/oneworld carrier/inventory changes are permitted provided ticketed points remain the same. If the first flight coupon is being changed, and the fare level has increased since ticket issuance, the difference between the old and new fare will be charged. If the fare level has decreased since ticket issuance, no refund will apply. Exception: For fares originating in TC1, changes to the first international flight and preceeding flights are not permitted less than seven days prior to the date of the first ticketed flight. (b) Changes other than to Date/time/oneworld carrier/inventory permitted at a charge of USD125.00 per transaction. If the fare level has increased since ticket issuance, the difference between the old and new fare will also be charged. If the fare level has decreased since ticket issuance, no refund will apply. |
So check price differences between an ATL stop and a RDU stop and make the change before departure if they are the same/less?
If making the change before, would it be better to do at the CX counter at MEL or at NRT? I'll be in NRT in late September, about 3 weeks before departing the DONE3. Otherwise make it in HKG? (First flights on DONE3 are HND-xHKG-JFK) The CX Tokyo office issued the ticket. |

Am I misunderstanding the rules? |

I thought taxes (and fuel surcharges) are recalculated for all voluntary changes, before or after departure, reroute or not (even just switching carriers). But this works both ways -- if the tax/surcharge has gone down you get a refund (unlike price changes).
Big difference is if the price for your origin has changed. For example, the ex-JNB price went up a lot this year. I have a 2014 ex-JNB ticketed at the old price. My understanding is that if I change the route before departure, I'll have to pay $125 plus the price increase, but if I change it after the trip has started I only have to pay the $125 (plus any tax differences). Am I misunderstanding the rules? |
