The answer to #1 I would say is to join the AA FFP.
#2 as I said, CX has a better product, but prices can be higher. But there is no reason you can't chop and change between the OW carriers based on schedule, price, etc.

Just like to let you know only YBH earns 100% mileage for both airlines, and only those earns status miles on CX. there are more subclasses with MH that earns less.
