I finally had a quote with Lan: 3079 euros, which was pretty good for my itinerary.

Problems came when I wanted to pay: I gave my Amex number, the guy was supposed to call me 30 minutes later, nothing. The next day, I called: the payment didn't go through... Hmm ok, why? The guy didn't know. We tried with my father's Amex, it didn't work. The guy called the financial deparment and here is the story:

2 years ago, I bought a Lan ticket on internet and they charged me twice. I went to the sales offices, first I didn't have my bank statement, second time, they asked me to call, when I called they asked me to send an e-mail, etc... So I sent an e-mail to the French speaking customer service, on the address the guy gave me over the phone, I never had any replied... So I contacted Amex to know if they could do something about it. They contacted Lan and after 8 weeks, as they had no answer from them (...), Amex credited my account with the money missing, they just told me, as Lan didn't answer, they have reimbursed me.

Why they had not told me was that Amex didn't reimburse me, they just pay "once" Lan. But Lan never made an investigation and for them, I just don't pay bills and refused to pay the money they thought I owe them!!

So now, 2 years later, I cannot pay for my Round The World ticket because of a mistake they actually did... I tried to call the financial department but the customer service doesn't let me talk to them and actually are quite rude to me as I am a "robber"... And, icing on the cake, the guy in charge of my reservation is... the guy who never answered my e-mail when I made the claim. Not sure I can find a way out and I will be blacklisted with Lan for the rest of my life for something I didn't do...

Have you explained the situation to Amex? Maybe they could do something--perhaps LAN's Financial Department will talk to them even if they won't talk to you. Assuming they only reversed one of the duplicate charges, they should be able to show that you did indeed pay them

I called Amex this morning, the lady told me to explain everything to Lan, and as I told her they think I am a robber, she called herself. The guy of customer service didn't care at all and when she said that a report will be filled and that Amex will officially contact them, the guy just told her "do whatever you want"...

So now Amex is upset. Anyway, that won't help me with this ticket...

Actually it is good that AMEX is upset and will be officially contacting LAN. I suspect that this will be elevated to decision makers, not customer service agents.

Hopefully I won't be blacklisted anymore but they won't be quick enough to save my RTW :-(
