flying oneworld and star alliance equally?

I hope I posted this to the best forum.

Since I finance my own travel myself (self-employed), I always fly economy and seek lower costs.

I find myself being only one flight away (already booked for next month) from achieving Gold with Oneworld (AA).

I reached Gold with Star Alliance (air Canada) yesterday.

I wondered if anyone had ever reached Gold status with both alliances in the same year and any suggestion anyone may have to either make it more efficient or advantageous.

Should I try to focus on a single Alliance? It didnt seem that the extra perks/rewards from Gold to Platinum were worth the the effort and money on either AA or AC.

Thank You

JP

If you're trying to keep ancillary fees down (baggage, etc.) this might not be a bad strategy. I'm more in it for the upgrades, and AA's fares along my preferred travel routes are relatively low anyway.

One point of clarification:

Do you mean you (will soon) have AA Gold (oneworld Ruby) and AC Elite (*A Gold)?
