Maybe Philippine Airlines(PR)?

Would OW want PR in the mix? Maybe codeshare with CX in the philippine domestic market or maybe AA from MNL to any destination in the US? Thoughts?

The way things are going, the chances of QF's LCC subsidiary JetStar/JetStar Asia/JetStar Pacific/Valuair would be the likely affiliate candidates for SE Asia than PR.

I know that nothing said here would actually have an effect, but just wondering how come no one has brought up BI (Royal Brunei). In my opinion, both BI and PR have a higher chance (though probably still slim) to join OW than Air Asia (AK), which probably would not want to join any alliance given the high cost.

OW seems to be getting left behind. ST and *A grew their ASKs, flights and seats while OW went backwards. With the unaligned carriers set to join the respective alliances (6 each for ST and *A, 2 for OW), that trend may continue.

I would have preferred something better then Jetstar, but there isn't much left in SE Asia (what is it that MH would want?).
It's nice that JQ flights can be booked now under the QF code, but they don't book into star class.

I assume if JQ were to fully join, it would be JQ as a member with 3K, BL and VF as affiliates or would all 4 airlines join as affiliates under QF?

JetBlue-LAN alliance

Wouldn't it be nice to think that JetBlue joins OW (either like Jetstar as codeshares or directly) and that LATAM stays with OW

Should Oneworld recruit some more Mexician airlines to re-plenish the loss of MX?

What other Mexican airlines? There's only Aeromexico but they're already with ST.

But MX is still a member if you believe the OW website

There are rumors that MX may rise again. Whether the new MX would be compatible with joining any alliance, assuming it can get off the ground (so to speak), remains to be seen.

There are always rumours , but seriously , the airline hasn't flown a single pax since the end of August last year and we are now halfway through March with no sign of a re-start ... I wouldn't hold my breath waiting if I were you .

i think Oneworld have to look for AirAsia (based on Kuala Lumpur (KUL), it's affinate is AirAsiaX, which is a long-haul airline based on KUL), to fill up the gap in South East Asia.
As:
1.MH is not so interested in Oneworld, although CX has code-sharing with MH for HKG-KUL route.
2.If MH joins *A or Skyteam, AirAsia will be the ONLY choice left for Oneworld to fill up the gap in South East Asia.

AirAsia is a LCC, or at best a "somewhat-reasonable-service-but-low-fares-and-not-very-much-of-a-premium" carrier, more or less like EI which left OW quite a while ago.

Again no chance AirAsia whilst Qantas owns share in Jetstar Asia and Jetstar Pacific

AirAsia doesn't even check through your baggage unless you're on selected long-haul connections, which largely limits them to a low-service point-to-point carrier.

OW may be falling behind the other two alliances in terms of member recruitment but I can't see them relaxing this criteria to let in another member, even if AirAsia were interested (and I would suspect they will remain unaligned).

zakami Mar 24, 2011 9:40 pm

Air Asia doesn't stand a chance. Their business model works by not offering features of a full-service airline, which of course wouldn't work for OW.
