Looking for advice on how to use OW

Hi everyone,

I am looking for some advice. I already have the following award flights booked:
Syd-Cpt (via Jnb) on 7 September 2011
Lhr - Mel on 22 September 2011.

I would like to get from Cpt to the following destinations in europe to spend a few days to visit friends, before flying out of LHR on the 22nd:
-BCN (or MAD is ok too)
-Paris (any airport)
-ABZ
- I would like to stop in London for a few days with at least one night being a Friday/Sat/Sun (quite specific I know).
No particular order is required.

I would like to use OW carriers, but I am not sure if this is the best option, given that it appears much cheaper to fly with carriers such as Etihad. As an example, the best price I have found to fly from CPT to LHR (12 September) with a OW carrier (Iberia) is about $1100AUD (cpt-mad/bcn is more expensive!?). I can fly with Etihad for about $437AUD departing on the same day (but there is an 8 hour layover in Abu Dhabi). I can fly Cpt-Cdg with Etihad a brief stopover in Abu Dhabi for around $480AUD.

Are there any OW options available that I can take advantage of to capture all the flights that I would like and to reduce the cost as much as possible?
I know that there is a visit Europe fare option, but, from my understanding, I would need to fly into Europe with a OW carrier, and, it looks like purchasing one way fares on BA/Iberia is often cheaper than the visit Europe fare.

Any information or advice that you have is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

bbewg
