OW - AA/CX advice to get benefits
 

I am a CX silver for my primary OW airline usually flying SFO-HKG. These next few months I will have to extend my trips to other US cities, DFW. Could anyone with experience as elite in both programs help?

When flying on AA it looks like I can get bag fees waived, however is there access to preferred seating with my CX number on itinerary? I also have existing 500 mile upgrades on AA. If I could re-earn AA status, is there a way to use upgrade instruments as an AA gold BUT allocate those flight miles to CX.

I'm a CX member and can only speak as such.

In terms of bags, yes, as a Ruby (CX SL) member you can check 2 bags 23kg each for free when travelling on any AA FLT. However, if you are connecting to a CX trans-Pacific FLT, you are entitled so even if you were not a member.

For preferred seatings on AA, you are entitled to as well. However, AA.com doesn't support this. You will have to request a specific seat number from where you make the booking (TA, CX, or whoever makes the booking for you).

I've been able to pull up my reservation on aa.com by reservation number which shows all aa and cx flights on the same ticket. It does bring up an upgrade area at the bottom of screen, with N/A for all CX flights, it also shows N/A for AA flights, but it is probably where you might request an upgrade if your account had status or eligible Y class ticket.

Will update when I find a solution.

AFAIK, you can use the complimentary upgrades on AA only if the ticket was issued by AA.
